  1. What happens if we process a submission online but never send it in? I just entered a submission with CCS pressing but am reconsidering having someone else do the pressing so I can see the books before I submit. What happens if I don't send the books in? Thanks, Ed
  2. I knew it needed a clean and press but I was honestly expecting 9.6 ONLY because I already have a 9.8 in this book and the top edge looks like it was cut with a dull blade. I sent in my already graded 9.8 for a Meyhew remarque. If it comes back less than 9.8 after this hit 9.8 I'll be much more than annoyed.
  3. This coming back to me some time next week. Submit the grade you think it's getting and I'll post a picture of the book as soon as I get it. I had it pressed and cleaned by CCS. Thanks! High res photos below https://photos.app.goo.gl/wdHb7WkoHmdePD796
  4. This was the dilemma I was facing when deciding to send in a few books for Claremont to sign (First Rogue, first Psylocke, first Emma Frost/Kitty Pride). I asked CGC for some stats on how often a grade gets dropped when being signed. They couldn't provide any numbers, as it's not something they track, but they informed me it is a rare occurrence. From that exchange I decided it was OK to submit them for signature. I think I'm just spooked right now knowing I have high value books at risk after seeing 1 out of the first 5 pre-graded books I submitted come back a lower grade. I believe the other books I sent in were more solid 9.8s and are less likely to see a grade drop as long as the books are handled well.
  5. I was thinking exactly what you stated. Perhaps the book was a "9.7". The first grading committee rounded up, but this time, the grading committee rounded down. I intend to have 1 more person sign the book. Hopefully when it get regraded, the committee will bring it back to the 9.8.
  6. The book I submitted did have a noticable and significant flaw on the bottom corner of the spine. I think the downgrade is more likely due to grader opinion on that defect than a new defect occurred during signing. Here's a link to the book if you happen to be interested in seeing it prior to signatures. https://photos.app.goo.gl/1YYQRsRUAtax6nwK6
  7. Hi Jenn.... Guess what happened? I think I might have jinxed myself, but one of my previously graded 9.8 books is coming back to me from the Cates and Stegman signing as a 9.6. I did not have it pressed after signing as I was confident the book would be handled carefully. But now I'm weary about the other books I have sitting at CGC awaiting their signature events. I forget which I requested pressing for and which I didn't. I'm pretty sure the majority of the books I submitted with no pressing. Can you help me with adding the pressing service? Also, is there anything I can do about the book that already received the reduced grade? Thanks and I hope you had a wonderful July 4th holiday, Ed
  8. I appreciate all the replies. I guess I thought with the book in a window bag most of the handling issues would be negligible. I guess I better contact CGC to add pressing to my books for after signing. As of right now, I had 4 9.8s cracked and signed. all but 1 came back a 9.8. small sample size, but if 25% come back at a lower grade, that's a terrible result.
  9. Have any of you had books CGC graded at 9.8 submitted to them for a signing and have it come back as a 9.6 (or lower)? I thought the likelihood of this happening would be very low. So far I have submitted a total of 4 previously graded books for signature. I didn't opt to have my 9.8 books pressed after signing because I felt the extra $20 is a rip off on top of the $70 (or more) for a signature. 1 is coming back a 9.6 and I'm quite annoyed about it. So my personal experience us a 25% rate of decreased grade from signing. I know it's a minuscule sample size, but i'm getting nervous about the 9.8 X-Men 129 that is in CGC's possession right now.
  10. Thanks Jenn, Your response was exactly what I was referring to. I completely understood the process as you describe it. Graders receive no bias after the signature occurs when they are regrading the book before encapsulation. I agree with that wholeheartedly. However, it's still possible that a pressed book after the signing still may not fix a potential defect that would cause a grade reduction. In the cases where this happens and a book of significant value drops a grade, is there any procedure for the owner to place an insurance claim or do we have to accept the fact that the book is losing value? Also, do you have any estimate of how often a grade drop occurs during signature? Thanks again, Ed
  11. Hi Jenn, I am curious what is done in the case where a book is submitted as a 9.8 graded comic, goes through the signing and then is regraded at anything less than a 9.8. Would an insurance claim be submitted to account for the loss of value the book incurred while CGC was in possession of the book? I have already sent some books in but am cautious about sending in some of my higher priced graded books as I'm not sure certain signatures on the book are worth the risk if the books come back a lower grade. Would there be any recourse a customer could take or are we supposed to accept the risk and whatever outcome of the grading? Thanks, Ed
  12. Thanks Jennifer! The books are for the signings so I wanted to be sure I made the deadline. Knowing the tracking states the books have been received is a relief based on what you said.
