  1. I concure with this. At the lcs that i volunteer my time, the regular bin comics are flying out and can't seem to keep the boxes full. The keys are very slow compared to the years past. Grade also dosnt even seem to matter as 2-5$ book are going out to readers who see the cost for new books and look at these as a bargain. Another trend I've noticed here is that we cant keep the younger crowd (funny animal, richie rich, archie) type books in stock at all. Kids and moms and dads are buying this stuff up on rainy days by the stack. Overall it seems to me that the future and younger generation interest of comics is in decent health. Its the spec market that is in another boom- bust cycle but im betting, if your in it for the long term, quality keys will continue to do well as they have for the last 50 years.
  2. I look for books like these with great color, gloss and presention that have some flaw, often on the back cover, that the grader decides to slam the book down for. Not so great when they are books you sent in though.
  3. Awesome thread was looking for something like this a while ago but must have missed it. I recently came across a bunch of front covers for some interesting books and posted it in the "have a cigar" thread a few months ago. Anyway iv'e been serching for interiors for any of these with a few results. The first i found an interior for was "Fighting Indians of the Wild West" one of the cheaper books but the match turned out great. Just need to find a back cover now The second one Strange Worlds 9 was a bit more tricky as the cover i had wasn't cut as clean as the Fighting Indians cover. For this i opted to go with a copy that was complete and had a back cover. The front cover was missing large chunks so was hoping to lay my cover on top and make it look much better. Unfortunatly the alignment of the covers was less than perfect so id say the result was mixed. I have a few more to post later when i have time but must say these new adventures in marrage have been a quite fun way to collect golden agae on the cheap. PS anyone got a Reform School Girl interior.
  4. Pickups over the last couple weeks. I. Just. Can't. Seem. To focus.
  5. Picked up a couple old Mads today. The 59 is a real beauty too.
  6. Just picked up this pretty copy today so i guess i get to join the club. What a great cover!!
  7. Boy I sure flubbed the bonus round.. So many weird defects got me all spun around and I made the mistake of questioning my first glance grades. Congratulations Batcollector on a deserved 1st place and thanks again to the Mike and the stat people for putting in the real work and making it all happen.
  8. Didn't do too bad on the last round. Considering it was the most rushed I still came up with my usual 4 points. Chilling Tales #13 --- 4.5 Diary Secrets #30 --- 4.5 Horrific #3 --- 2.5 Doctor Solar #1--- 4.5 Avengers #7 --- 7.0 Gave 3 4.5's as they all looked about the same grade to me. Was worries I went to lenient on Horrific 3 but remembered that i noticed for some reason CGC does not count tape and added staples as amateur restoration and that restoration if done professionally doesn't seem to effect the grade, just the label. So i graded it as a completely detached cover with other smaller defects. Almost missed the tear in avengers 7 and was going to give it at least an 8 but noticed it at the last second. Also thanks Again to Mike and CGC and all the stats guys for putting on this fun contest and keeping us on our toes.
  9. I'd call it copper but the lines are pretty blurry on Bronze these days so I'm in the not nit picky I guess it could be borderline to someone side.
  10. Dang aced 3 of them but was to harsh by 2 points on the More Fun and too lenient by 2 point on the HOS. Definitely couldn't see the water stains on the HOS but saw it on the back cover of the ASM.
  11. Yea i don't have much of my OO comics left. I moved a lot and they took a real beating. Got a couple scanned though. The 216 is probably was the last then we moved out of the country for a couple years years. Came back and started really collecting again with FF 249.
  12. Same the 170-200 Era was when I first started to understand the interconnectedness of the Marvel universe. Being an kid living in a non urban area I didn't have access or money for a steady supply of comics so I had to be picky when i had my buying opportunities. These FF's were my favorites would grab them first when I saw em and read them to death trying to figure out what must of happened between the issues I missed. .
  13. 2 bulls then I whiffed on The Thing with a 4.0 and totally whiffed on hulk with a 2.5. Looking at it again I don't know what I was thinking. Off by 1 point on GR oh well. On to round 2.
  14. Fun day at the lcs with some nice and hardly seen in the wild books showing up.
  15. It seems to me like a roller mark from the printing machine on pages not quite dry yet. Pretty common and not as severe as many I've seen.
