  1. Well, I would definitely consider the centerfold being ripped out and put back in loose a serious problem. Again, I've been basing my opinions all these years (35+) on Overstreet standards. And using that knowledge, if I bought a book that had spine creases and was graded at F/VF, with creases consistent for that grade, and brought it home to find the centerfold detached, I would be VERY upset.
  2. OMG those "Precious Moments" figurines! The mention of it always brings to mind the MST3K parody.
  3. I'm fairly certain that Overstreet states that a detached centerfold is only acceptable in "Good" (2.0, maybe 2.5) condition. CGC would grade it as high as F/VF? That's actually kind of shocking to me. I'm still getting used to the vast differences between Overstreet grading and CGC standards.
  4. Ah, yes, Charlton - the absolute zenith of comic book publishing quality!
  5. I got an order in a few months ago, and one of the magazine slabs is not completely sealed shut on the sides. You could slip a postcard through it, into the slab, if you wanted. I read on another thread that this is normal, and especially important for air circulation so that the book doesn't "stew in its own juices"..?
  6. I have my collection in my basement, elevated on pallets in case of any stray water mishaps (basement is not prone to flooding, but in extreme weather conditions, some water does leak in), about 1 foot away from the outside wall (which is mostly underground), with a dehumidifier.
  7. SERIOUSLY. That's about seven months!!! Outrageous! I have three magazines I'm really itching to send, but I'm not keen on having them in limbo for SEVEN MONTHS.
  8. I recently bought a GA book described as having a detached cover. The price was right, so I snatched it. When it arrived, the cover was split in half (as well as detached from the rest of the book, naturally). That is to say, completely split at the spine, separating the front and back covers. The original photos of the book were such as to make it appear the covers were attached. When I contacted the seller, they said that's what "detached" meant - that the front and back covers were detached from each other Thankfully the seller made up for it by offering me a fairly good deal on another book they had for sale.
  9. Get a dehumidifier ASAP if you can! I store my comics in my basement which is great for light and temperature, but usually terrible for humidity. However, I have a dehumidifier (just a standard-grade $200-ish one) and it does a great job of keeping the humidity below 50%.
  10. As of this writing, GoCollect.com lists a Universal 7.0 as having FMV of $5,000. I'm fairly certain it was at least $6,000 (or more) when I checked it this AM. I posted this in relevance to the topic as a possible sign of cooling down (for now)? Though that's a big drop. The Incredible Hulk #181 (1974) Value - GoCollect
  11. That's a good point. I bet some negative press would wake up some people in QC. Or find them on the dole.
  12. I just checked GoCollect, and it seems my Hulk 181 7.0 just had experienced a huge drop in value over the last 12 hours. Like, a drop of over $1k. Or do I need better glasses?
  13. I see his all the time with comics I own multiple copies of. During the printing process, some printing colors start to run out, etc. If you were to look at a stack of 1,000 consecutive copies as they came off the printer, I would imagine the first few to have the boldest colors, then gradually (imperceptibly) become less so. Comparing the first copy and the 1,000th copy would put the difference in stark relief.
  14. Yes. Otherwise, it gets a "qualified" label. If you're gonna go blue, you take the hit.
  15. That is a considerable chunk. I wouldn't put that higher than a 4.0, to be honest.
  16. Express Tier order Mailed to CGC: 5/3/21 Marked as Received: 5/13/21 QC: 5/21/21 Shipped: 5/24/21
  17. I got notice that my credit card was being charged for my submissions yesterday - Saturday - but no change in status online as of yet. I'm expecting to find out grading results tomorrow, as they've been listed as in QC for a couple of days now
  18. I've had this happen with some recently received books as well, and when I asked about it, the general consensus is that this is indeed "normal." It's also the cause of a common problem dubbed "shaken comic syndrome" in the forums, referring to damage caused to the book by moving around in the well. Which sucks, btw.
  19. I'm just going to keep sending 5-10 books a month, continuing a steady stream of comics going out/comics coming in every month, even if the ones coming back in are from 5 months ago (or more).
  20. There is currently about a month gap between a package being delivered and then opened.
  21. I wish they still had the alpha grades with the numeric grades. My default when grading is still alpha. Yes, I'm a dinosaur.
