  1. Hey all...haven't been doing much with comics over the past 6 months or so. But an old and very dear friend recently surprised me with slabbed copies of my all-time favorite Modern Comics reprints of classic '60s Charltons: Captain Atom #83, featuring the first appearance of Ted Cord (the 2nd Blue Beetle); and Blue Beetle #1, featuring the first appearance of The Question. All Ditko, of course! Great stuff! And, at least in my experience, these two issues in particular are very hard to find in F/VF or better these days. So I was VERY pleased and excited to add them to my Modern collection!
  2. Just in yesterday from a PA antique mall. '70s CB radio as the birth of Tinder? Wild! And what could possibly go wrong...?
  3. Here's a higher-grade fun one from 1979 that just came in -- Flash gets dosed with Angel Dust (!), wigs out & hallucinates, then goes completely bonkers on the JLA satellite, knocking it out of its orbit. Wild! Ace action cover by (DC secret weapon) Richard Giordano, too -- Batman gets lit up like a Christmas tree; Wonder Woman takes a forearm shiver; and GL gets a super-speed boot upside his head. Ouch!
  4. High grade DC Tarzan treasury from 1973 -- the strip Joe Kubert was born to draw!
  5. Hey all...it's been a red hot few years since I've sold here on the Boards! Thought I'd test the waters with one book before attempting a more substantial thread a month or so from now. Item Description: STRANGE TALES ANNUAL #2 -- This is a 100% COMPLETE and READABLE low-grade copy with some ancient amateur resto: color touch on the front cover, plus tear seals and glue repairs. Who knows why someone did this? It was clearly beat to begin with! There are also some inexplicable curved pieces (the longest is 1.5") missing from the right-hand edge of several interior pages in the Spidey-Torch story, none of which impact the art nor readability of the page (see pic 4 below). Price: $100 shipped & insured via USPS Priority Mail (US only). Thanks for looking! Best, -Mikey ============================================================== TERMS: • :TAKEIT: in the thread rules. • PayPal ONLY for this sale. • No HOS'ers/probies/etc. • Payment is due within 3 days of closing the deal unless we've made other arrangements. DOMESTIC US SHIPPING (fully insured & securely packaged): • FREE for USPS Priority Mail. • NOTE: I am sometimes able to ship the same day that payment is received, but usually no later than one day after payment is received. ***VERY IMPORTANT NOTE -- US shipping only, very sorry!*** RETURNS: • Shouldn't be necessary for an obviously low grade reader like this, but…I'm reasonable -- if there's a problem of ANY kind, please PM me and we WILL work it out to your satisfaction. Finally, my feedback thread is located here (under my old username, but it's still me): https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/198709-mikeyriffhards-feedback-thread/ ==============================================================
  6. Raw, higher grade late '70s DC Giants really do it for me these days. And as with Swamp Thing #1, the print run for this book also features two distinctly different front-cover background color shades -- blue/bluish and purple/purplish. Me? I prefer the purple...
  7. Hey all...still kicking the bushes for Moderns, and especially ones with discount store stamps on them, as discussed earlier in this thread. Recent acquisitions are pictured below: • the Modern variant of House of Yang #1 with a "6 for a Dollar" sticker came from an antique mall in Glen Mills, PA. • the other three examples (from Gettysburg PA) are genuine Charltons (and -- if not for the discount stickers that made them interesting to me -- are borderline high grade, too): similar to the Moderns, these were being blown out @ .14¢ each, or 8 for $1.00, at Barkers Discount Department Stores [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barker's_Discount_Department_Stores ]. Is this another piece of the Modern puzzle, or just a coincidental case of a wholesaler bulking out unsold stock from a B-list publisher to a discount chain?
  8. Hey all...thanks for the opinions, guidance, and fun stuff. Much appreciated!
  9. Asking for a very dear friend: given Charlton's notoriously spotty quality control, and the fact that it was a kiddie/cartoon comic, does this book exist on the open market these days in 9.0 or better (raw)? I have my doubts, but will leave it to the experts. Thanks!
  10. Nice looking pence copies of BA Kirby Caps are suddenly becoming a thing for me...
  11. Wonderful gift received today from a VERY good friend. My cousin and I absolutely LOVED this mag back in the late '70s...and the Goodwin/Simonson Star Wars strip doesn't hurt, either! Now I want the whole damn run!!! PS: I think what Frampton "stepped in" was this poop-stinker of a movie!!!
  12. The missus and I took a long walk on a local trail this morning, and then paid a quick visit to my LCS on the way home, where I found these two '70s beauties for very light $$...
  13. After nearly 50 years of reading/collecting, ya really gotta love it when you unexpectedly find a book which is buried deep on your want list as a number only, and which turns out to feature a cover by your favorite artist (from your favorite period for his work) which you have never seen before, and never even knew existed...all for under a buck. And a decent copy, too!!!
  14. Date is borderline/late BA, and (technically) it's not 100% a BB comic (more like a "Showcase" title). On the other hand, it does contain a new story, so that's a plus. So I say, yeah -- close enough! Unless you count the Modern Comics BB Ditko reprints released in the late '70s which preceded it by several years: https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?TID=317761
  15. Not sure why I care about high grade late '70s Charltons...but I kinda do...
  16. Out of four packages I've received from MCS over the past few months (including one last week), only one arrived later than expected (delay of one day). My wife just received a book from the UK which arrived in under a week. So...no problems or complaints here...
  17. This was on the top of my reading pile for today: Then I opened it up...
