  1. I hear you. But buyers remorse and reckless spending is more like: "Damn, I wish I hadn't spent money on this thing." I've never returned a 9.8 because I wanted the dough back. Only because I see something in hand that I couldn't see in the pics. If I buy a hockey jersey, get it home, put it on and then notice the logo is crooked...im going to wanna exchange it. All cgc 9.8s are not the same and 9.8s are not perfect. So sellers should take honest pics and show the flaws for those of us looking to "buy the book, not the grade". That's all I ask of sellers. When we sell on Ebay, we have the advantage. A potential buyer can't hold the item in their hand. Much different than a yard sale. A "all sales are final" policy makes much more sense at a yard sale or pawn shop. I take many, many GREAT pics when I sell a book. I don't know of any online retailer that does not offer free returns. I follow that proven model. And they don't even need to be free returns. I buy from sellers that charge for returns. I've paid for returns. Hell, I've paid restocking fees without complaining. It's never about the money, with me anyway.
  2. I hear you and yes, Ive run into many people here who little to zero patience for this type of discussion. I just chalk it up to them being old and cranky. With older books, I can understand having a few defects on a 9.8. Im not sure if CGC grades on a curve based on age but that would make sense to me. When I see a modern book thats been graded a 9.8 but has obvious issues, it makes my stomach hurt. Im doing well in my quest to have all 9.8s with perfect front covers. Ive had to return a few along the way and I know that upsets some folks here but its my collection after all...its my hard earned money im spending.
  3. I get it. I disagree but who cares, right? Its just that Im relatively new to this game and most of what Ive learned in the past 2 years has been from these boards. The "spare a grade?" board, I guess, has me trained to see a defect and downgrade the book to 9.6, at least. That seems to be commonplace there and those guys seem to really know what theyre talking about.
  4. See now I've posted a few perfect looking books on the "spare a grade?" board and I don't remember anyone ever awarding a 9.8 Pretty much every time they find that one potential defect that keeps the book out of 9.8 territory. Savage Dragon 102, an X-Men 11 and a Wolverine 8 and a few others I thought were perfect but no go with those guys. And I really trust those guys' opinions and agree with them that a visible defect should = 9.6. Those 3 books are still at cgc so I'll post the grades when they come in.
  5. Oh, no, don't get me wrong. I'm collecting for me. Buying what I like. I'm not planning on dying for another 40 years or so. Jeez 😆
  6. All I remember from the notes is light or moderate finger bends There was a ASM 316 in that lot too and it also came back a 5.5. That one I sold on Ebay because I already onwed a 9.4. Imagine getting those 3 books back, all graded 5.5...all bought from diff places. And this was my first ever sub to cgc. I was pissed off.
  7. I sure do if you can tell me how to access subs from 3 years back. I dont have the #s anymore.
  8. I once submitted 2 copies of ASM 300. I bought them from two diff sellers. They both came back 5.5. Seemed fishy to me as they both looked MUCH better than 5.5s. I cracked them and still have them raw. Someday Ill press and resub, see what happens.
  9. To me it is because Ill never sell my collection. Its not an investment for myself. ill be leaving it to my daughter and it will all be 100% profit to her if she decides to sell it.
  10. Found this at a yard sale this past weekend. It's in great condition but very dusty. I need some advice on the best way to clean it. I tried canned air, didn't work. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
  11. A 9.8 with no visible defects to the front cover is perfection in my eyes It doesn't bothers if there's color rub on the back cover or a crease on page 7
  12. And I admire your ability to accept less than perfection. In my case, I have 13 cgc 9.8s and they all LOOK perfect. To each his own
  13. No way they missed it but VERY possible it happened during encapsulation. I worry about the future of graded comics and I've got a nice chunk invested in my collection. I don't buy 9.8s to get rich though. I buy them because I CRAVE perfection. And if a 9.8 isn't perfection then there should be more 9.9s and 10s out there. Especially for books that came out in the last decade. There are a lot of collectors out there that know how to grade comic books. They submit hundreds at a time but the best they can hope for is a 9.8. Something wrong there.
  14. How do you want your book graded? You can only have 2 of the 3: Fast Cheap Correctly
  15. I know, I know ...and im trying SO HARD to accept that fact but I have so many 9.8s that are flawless to the naked eye. When I see one with a clear flaw, it makes my stomach hurt. Theres a huge diff in value from a 9.8 to a 9.6. The stakes are high when youre looking to buy a book worth thousands. Its one thing when a book you already own gets a gift grade...THATS GREAT! Different ballgame when youre paying fmv for a gift graded 9.8. Im curious if anyone here has a foil cover - comic with a scratch that got a 9.8.
  16. I auctioned a ASM 55 a year ago. It had a full cover but the book looked like someone used it to swat flies. I seem to remember it selling for like $20.
  17. Im looking at buying a book thats been graded a cgc 9.8. Its a foil cover and there is a very small scratch on the foil...maybe a half inch long. My question is...shouldnt that disqualify it for 9.8?
  18. It's just a file cabinet. You could literally pull the draw open aggressively and it'd probably break the lock.
  19. Wolverine and Punisher limited series They were always hung high, out of reach with what insane price stickers. As a kid, I didnt think id ever own them.
  20. I was very young but followed my older brother around. All I remember is the comic/card conventions he took me to. Usually in the lobby of a Holiday Inn...nothing but COMICS and CARDS. I still remember the smell and the rush Id get just walking in.
  21. CGC must have MILLIONS of raw books waiting in line. How are they stored? Long boxes? Short boxes? Stacks on the floor as high as the ceiling? And im not saying cgc is damaging books. It could be they were damaged in shipping. Sometimes you cant even tell a box has been dropped on the corner...sometimes the corner pops back out.
