  1. I had a modern submission with pressing that was delivered to cgc on 3/22/21 and I just got it back on 1/28/22.
  2. In a hole in the ground there lived a comic book nerd. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a comic book nerd hole, and that means comfort and lots of fun things to look at and admire. Now sit back and relax as I regale you with a tale of some comic books’ adventurous journey through many perils on a quest to get graded. This is not a tale for the timid mind you! There will be thrills and chills. You’ll laugh and cry and just maybe….learn to love again. This story begins on a bright and shiny day in March… 3/19/21 The following order of 18 books was sent off to CGC for grading and pressing under the modern tier: · Incredible Hulk #340 · Venom Lethal Protector #1 · Spawn #1 · Avengers Annual #10 · X-Men vol. 2 #11 · Uncanny X-Men #120 · Uncanny X-Men #129 · Uncanny X-Men #212 · Uncanny X-Men #213 · Uncanny X-Men #268 · X-Men Annual #14 · Marvel Comics Presents #72 · Wolverine #8 · Wolverine #10 · Wolverine #17 · Wolverine #27 · Wolverine #88 · Wolverine Vol. 3 #66 I’m a huge Wolverine nerd so this submission is mostly Wolverine / X-Men keys with a couple of extra comics sprinkled in for flavor. 3/22/21 Shipment was delivered to CGC. Now begins the long wait for my books to get checked into the system. 4/15/21 My books are marked as received by CGC. “And now my watch begins…” 4/21/21 CGC announces new pricing. This shouldn’t affect my order but I am hearing whispers that some people are getting charged the new rates for pressing even if they sent in their books before the 4/28 deadline. We shall see… 7/29/21 Checking in on the status of my submission I noticed that under status it shows “Received at CCS”. Which is awesome but I still haven’t been charged anything yet on my credit card. 10/12/21 I still haven’t been charged for pressing on my credit card. But waiting is fun… 11/23/21 I noticed my status is now “CCS in Process”. Not sure how long it’s been that way. 01/10/22 My books are now in “Grading/Encapsulation/Imaging! We’re getting closer! 01/21/22 The books moved into “Grading/Quality Control”. 1/27/22 And then came a day unlike any other. My books have been shipped back! That was a crazy long wait but I’m excited to get these back. Here is a summary of the grades: · Wolverine 66: 9.6 o I estimated it was a 9.6 / possible 9.8 · Wolverine 88: 9.4 o I estimated a 9.2 / 9.4 · Wolverine 27: 9.6 o I really thought this would be a 9.8 · MCP 72: 9.6 o I estimated a 9.2 / 9.4 · Wolverine 17: 9.6 o I was sure this would be a 9.8 · Avengers Annual 10: 8.0 o I felt this would be a 6.5 / 7.0 · Venom Lethal Protector 1: 9.8 o I estimated a 9.8 · Spawn 1: 9.8 o I estimated a 9.8 · X-Men 11: 9.8 o I estimated a 9.8 · Uncanny X-Men 120: 9.2 o I estimated this would be a 9.2 / 9.4 · Wolverine 10: 9.4 o I thought this was a 9.8 · Uncanny X-Men 129: 7.0 o My guess was a 6.0 / 6.5 · Wolverine 8: 9.6 o I was convinced this was a 9.8 LOL · X-Men Annual 14: 9.4 o I thought this was a 9.8 · Incredible Hulk 340: 8.5 o I was sure this was a 9.2 · Uncanny X-Men 268: 9.6 o I estimated this was a 9.6 / 9.8 · Uncanny X-Men 212: 9.2 o I really believed this was a 9.6 · Uncanny X-Men 213: 9.2 o I thought this would be a 9.6 too I’ve learned through this process that my grading skills could be better but overall I think I did pretty well. Side Quest 1: 6/7/21 Sent off a submission of 9 books to CBCS: · Predator #1 · Super-Villain Classics #1 · Uncanny X-Men #145 · Uncanny X-Men #244 · Uncanny X-Men #251 · Uncanny X-Men #282 · Wolverine #1 (1988) · Wonder Woman #72 · X-Men vol. 2 #25 signed by Len Wein (doing signature verification) All these books are getting pressed as well. It will be interesting to see what gets graded first. CGC has more than a 2 month head start. The current turn around times for CBCS is 29 weeks for pressing and grading. That should put me at about December 29th – ish. I guess merry Christmas to me? 6/9/21 Package was delivered and “Left with Individual”. I know that “Individual” is super trust worthy so I’m not worried. 7/18/21 Order is now “processing”! I feel like I’m gaining ground here. 7/23/21 I got an email from CBCS saying that my order has moved to the pressing area. 1/27/22 Well here we are almost in February and there has been no movement whatsoever. Side Quest 2: 7/3/21 Sent off another submission to CBCS of 11 books to take advantage of their 4th of July promo: · Batman 614 (signed by Jason O’Mara) · Justice League 1 (signed by Geoff Johns) · New Mutants 16 (signed by Booboo Stewart) · Uncanny X-men 221 (signed by Marc Silvestri) · Wolverine 33 (signed by Larry Hama) · Wolverine 1 2020 (signed by Ben Percy) · Wolverine 2 (1982 mini series) · Wolverine 3 (1982 mini series) · Wolverine 4 (1982 mini series) · Wolverine 50 · Wolverine 6 (Alex Ross Timeless variant) These books will get pressed as well. Turn around times are now at 32 weeks which will put it about the beginning of March. Yikes. 7/6/21 Package delivered. 8/19/21 My credit card was finally charged for this order and the status on the dashboard is now processing. 8/31/21 Got an email from CBCS that my books have moved to the pressing area. Mini Side Quest: 7/10/21 Sam de la Rosa did a signing at a local comic shop and there was a CGC authorized facilitator there witnessing signatures. I had Sam sign a copy of Predator #2 and am having it graded. I have no idea when I’ll be seeing the book back. It shouldn’t be too long though since I’m not getting it pressed. 8/18/21 Got an email from the authorized facilitator that the book has been received by CGC and is waiting to be graded. 12/11/21 The book was sent back and available for pickup at my LCS. It came back a 9.2 which is higher than I thought it would get since it wasn’t pressed. The book looks great and I’m very happy with it. Side Quest 3: 7/15/21 Sent off some books for the Jim Lee signing at CGC: · Uncanny X-men 268 · X-men 11 · Wolverine 27 · Punisher War Journal 6 Three of those books I have getting graded already so I called customer service to see if they could move them over for the signing. They said no. Since they were my all time favorite Jim Lee covers I found other copies of them for him to sign. 7/19/21 Books were delivered to CGC. 7/22/21 Books showed up under my submissions for In-house Signing Grading. 7/22/21 My card was charged by CCS for pressing. Things are moving! 7/29/21 My credit card was charged for the rest of the signature / grading fees and the status under my submissions shows “Received at CCS”. 11/30/21 The books are now in “Grading/Encapsulation/Imaging” so it shouldn’t be too long now. 12/30/21 The books were shipped. 1/3/22 The books came in and look great: · Punisher War Journal #6 = 9.8 · X-Men #11 = 9.8 · Wolverine #27 = 9.8 · Uncanny X-Men 268 = 9.6 Side Quest 4: 8/25/21 I decided to try out the new kids on the block EGS. Their site says they have a 21 business day turn around which is awesome. I sent in two books with no cleaning or pressing: · Wolverine 1 (2020) Chip Kidd variant · Wolverine 1 (2020) C2E2 variant I chose these books because I really like the covers and I wanted to match them up with some of the fun custom color labels that EGS offers. I look forward to getting the books back and evaluating their overall service and quality. 8/28/21 Package was delivered and left at the front door/porch. So far it sounds legit. LOL 8/30/21 Got an email from EGS saying they have my books and an invoice to pay. I paid right away which starts the 21 day countdown. By my calculation 21 business days should put it at Sept. 28th. 9/28/21 This is the 21st business day and I hadn’t heard from EGS yet so I sent them an email inquiring about my order. I got a reply about 5 minutes later from the company president that my books are expected to ship out by the end of next week. 10/5/21 I got an email stating that my order is complete and also a tracking number. 10/8/21 The books arrived. The Chip Kidd cover got a 9.8 and the C2E2 got a 9.4. Here are my thoughts on the quality of their slabs: PROS: · I like how thin the cases are · The cases feel sturdy · I like the certificate of authenticity and how it has the grader notes · The label options are great · Their turn around times are awesome. It took about 28 business days to get my books back. · The books were packaged well CONS: · I’m not a fan of the 4 hinges on the top of the case · The security seal sticker on the bottom of the slab is ghetto · There are a lot of newton rings · They misspelled the word “bottome” on one of the certificates Overall I’m pleased with the books. I posted my pros/cons on Instagram and EGS responded stating that they are working on getting new slabs that will eliminate the hinges, stickers and newton rings. I thought it was cool that they responded to feedback. Side Quest 5: 8/25/21 I sent a copy of Crisis on Infinite Earths #7 into CGC for the George Perez signing at CGC. This is one of my all-time favorite covers. Such a classic. 8/30/21 Package was delivered to CGC. 9/7/21 CCS charged my card and the book is showing up on my submissions. 9/10/21 I was charged the rest of the grading amount by CGC. Now I wait… 11/15/21 The book is now in Grading/Encapsulation/Imaging. 01/13/22 The book has moved to Grading/Quality Control! 1/27/22 We’re still in Grading/Quality Control. Some final thoughts: In the time it took to send books in and get them back, I believe I could have walked to Mordor and dropped a ring in Mt. Doom. Also in November I sent 3 books to CGC under the standard tier for pressing and grading and they were shipped back to me already on 1/26: o Batman Adventures 12: 9.4 o Fantastic Four 50: 3.5 o Thor 160: 6.5 I also sent another book in for the final George Perez signing event. I wish I was able to meet him in person but what can you do. This has been an educational experience. I really have to say CGC’s communication is better than CBCS’. CBCS never updates the dashboard and when I click on the invoice it doesn’t tell me anything different. One day I’m sure those books will be done.
  3. I wonder if this new process will speed up pressing orders as well. Or is it only for grading?
  4. I usually like just the writer and artist but I do have a copy of Star Trek the Next Generation #1 that I'm going to try to get as many of the cast members to sign as I can.
  5. That's weird. The opposite happened to me. They said I was so good looking that they needed to keep my books for an extra 8 months.
  6. I completely agree. I've been trying to collect mainly Uncanny X-Men and Wolverine but if I want it all that means Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, New X-Men, Wolverine is on volume 7 now and that doesn't even count All New Wolverine, The Wolverines, Old Man Logan, Weapon X, etc. I haven't even gotten into the X-Men Blue, Gold, Red titles yet. Forget it if I want to collect New Mutants, X-Force, X-Factor, Excalibur, Cable, Deadpool and all the crazy mini series that are floating around out there.
  7. So this is either the worst cover ever or the greatest cover of all time. You be the judge. The only thing that would make it better is if the tag line was "He sees you when you're sleeping..."
  8. I have to go with Uncanny X-Men. Specifically Claremont's run.
  9. I just completed my run of Wolverine vol. 2 and vol. 3. I've been slowly working on Uncanny X-men. I have 108-330 and am trying to work backwards from 107-94 but those are so expensive.
  10. I have the same dilemma. I just sent in Wolverine #27, Uncanny X-men #268 and X-men #11 to get graded and then they announce Jim Lee. I would love to get those signed by him. But that ship has sailed. I'll probably send in Uncanny X-men #274 and the Wolverine/Cyclops X-men #1 cover now. I wish we could switch submitted books to a signing event.
  11. It does get a little frustrating as I will be waiting for the next several months for my books to get pressed and graded...I say that as I prep a couple books for the Jim Lee signing.
  12. Captain America 119 (3rd appearance of The Falcon) Grade: FN There is some waviness that should be pressable and some water damage (see photo of back) Asking $20
