  1. I also stumbled on a CAF's user gallery that has some wonderful pictures of Caniff inking similiar sized boards. Thought I would share! Thanks again.
  2. This is so helpful. Thank you! I really appreciate the info from all. I was looking at some of the Sold OA on HA and noticed some of those pieces had handwritten lettering - "Let depth come one Sharp Glossy Print for Rescale..." and then that made sense. A production print rescale. Very neat!
  3. Recent pick up. I really enjoy it but I'm not quite sure exactly what it is. It seems to be something that was created in-house although I'm no expert. Perhaps an experimental production piece for coloring? It's large (approx. 19" x 28"), and printed on a sturdy 1/4" hardboard panel. The print quality is excellent. Even under a loop it's very hard to tell it's a print; but the blacks are uniform across. Some of the coloring appears to have been applied by hand, some maybe a print. The white out over the bold date at the top makes me think it's produced directly from the original art. Thanks for the input.
  4. Beat up and rat chewed, but a pleasant surprise from a recent haul of primarily late Silver and Bronze.
  5. And one had the membership card with secret decoder inside!
  6. Check that out. 38 issues of Superman-Tim (starting with #3 Oct 1942- #41 Dec 1945). The original owner had bound them into three volumes with two pipe cleaners holding them together along the spine. The first 10 or so have 2 pages of Action Comics stories (Action Comics #55 - #64); including the first appearance of Toyman; published in the July '43 issue of Superman-Tim - two months before the first appearance in Action #64... How cool. Apologies to the underbidder!
  7. Thought I'd share a great cabinet I recently got in a nice lot of antique photos. It predates the GA by 25+ years but lots of great large format magazine covers and neat ephemera. When I zoom close in I can see Opportunity Magazine (Nov. 1911) and Metropolitan Magazine (Dec. 1911).
  8. Great idea to look at the back cover. I wish there was a little less light on the image so we could get a better view of it.
  9. Thank you. It's getting harder and harder to "find" good stuff but definitely still out there. Here's the image a 1200dpi.
  10. Thanks for the thoughts. Here's the original image. It's also worth noting that he is either in California or Arizona here - It's around Christmas time; some year either before or after they took a trip across the border to Mexico, but this is his back patio based on the other photos in the collection. I also didn't see anything in the other 300+ photos that suggested UK or Australia vacations or connections, but that is speculation on my part.
  11. Yes that's the UK / AU version that I mentioned in the original - but note how there is clearly no big "1" or "6D" price variation below the R in superman in the photo.
  12. Can someone help ID this issue? This is a zoomed in image of a snapshot photograph 1950's kid in California reading a Superman Title that has the Cover of Action 245 on it. I understand that there is a UK / AU international variation of this book (Superman 109 Australian w Action 235 cover) - but there is clearly no 6D price, nor N. 109 on the cover of the book in this photograph. Any thoughts? Thanks!
  13. Alright folks, help me out with this one. Here's a fresh from a scrapbook snapshot photograph of a mid 1950's kid in California reading a Superman Title that has the Cover of Action 245 on it. I understand that there is a UK / AU international variation of this book (Superman 109 Australian w Action 235 cover) - but there is clearly no 6D price, nor N. 109, on the book in this photograph. Any thoughts? Thanks!
  14. A successful marriage. I think a couple of you had the same thing in mind when the cover came up on eBay; but I'm happy to get it. Will stay in my keeper pile. Love that it's the same servicemen from the cover of Superman 12.
