  1. I went to look at the grader's notes. I was expecting the cover to be detached at a staple, but nothing in the notes like that. The grading does seem a little harsh. light bends to cover light creasing to cover light spine stress lines to cover
  2. I can remember picking up a copy of this comic on a rainy day in late summer/early fall of 1974 at Steven's Drugstore in downtown Knoxville, TN.
  3. I finally added these two personal grails to my collection. These came out a little over a year before I started collecting comics at the age of 9. It only took me 50 years to finally get them. Maybe I can upgrade them in fewer than 50 years.
  4. I'm not sure if I posted mine before in this topic, but if I did, it was back in the photobucket days--so it's gone. Here it is raw and graded. I finally had it graded in February of 2023. I purchased this copy at my LCS when I was 9-years old. The original owner of the shop was a really nice older gentlemen that would allow me to hang out and look through comics all day without a word. His son-in-law took over the shop, and moved it across the street to a slightly bigger location. He was not as nice as the original owner and seemed irritated if I stayed looking for a while. I didn't really like him very much at first, but he eventually warmed up. One day, as I was perusing--trying to get the best books I could afford with my meager lawn-mowing money, he suggested that I pick up a copy of Hulk 181 because it had a new character. I like him a lot more now than I did back in the day for that recommendation.
  5. I don't think the stains are coming out unless you want to end up with a purple label. 5.0.
  6. Well, to be fair, he IS the greatest man who has ever lived. At least his profile says so... "I am the greatest man who has ever lived. I am... Dr. Wyoming"
  7. This is a different copy from the previous one I posted. This one is not tanned like the other one was. Other than the small amount of bends at the bottom, it's a pretty decent copy. Thanks for your opinions.
  8. Unfortunately the combination of cover material in conjunction with the way the comics are distributed results in rubbing of the spine against the box during shipment. Bry's comics has a good video showing what is allowed in a 9.8 on his YouTube channel. This spine rub is one of those defects that seem to be almost treated as manufacturing and allowed in 9.8 (I have several SIKTC in 9.8 with slight spine rub). I guess maybe CGC considers the handling during the current distribution channels to be part of the manufacturing process.
  9. It works for me. It's just incredibly slow. I usually only add the front/back pics for about 3 books at a time.
  10. Nice looking book. I'd say 9.2 to 9.4.
  11. A very nice looking book. I'd go 7.0 due to the spine stress and missing chip. But, I usually am on the low-side when it comes to CGC grading. So, it would probably get a little higher... 7.5 or 8.0.
  12. Less than 1/16" tear at bottom. Otherwise, a pretty nice copy with some tanning. Thanks for taking a look.
  13. Just got my Hulk 181 back from CGC. Thanks @joeypost for the great job on this book. I bought this from my LCS when I was 9 years old. I tried to take as good of care of it as I could, but this was before bag & boards. I later stored it in a poly bag when I discovered them, and finally moved it to mylar with a full back as an adult. It survived about as well as could be expected.
  14. Thank you. FF 149 was the first comic (not this particular copy) I purchased as a kid at my local 7-11. So although it's not a key, it is a key to me because of the memories associated with it. It wasn't until a comic shop opened near me a couple of years later that I was able to get 147 and 148 so that I could read the story arc. I pick up this book anytime I see it in high grade. I have a 9.6 of this book in an older slab that actually looks nicer than this one.
