  1. Not the best pic of it, but a lotta red in this one too!
  2. This is the only Ken Bald signed comic in my collection at present, but it's a good'un (as Billy would say)! In fact, according to The Marvel Captain America Official Index to the Marvel Universe, it's only the third Captain America issue Ken had done work in (the 32 being his first, then the 33 as well). I'm happy and grateful to have this.
  3. Ok, here's issue number two, same thing as the one, it has the protective overlay still attached.
  4. I'm very sad to hear this news, but thank you for reporting it Robot Man. I'm very glad that Ken found fandom in his later years and was able to enjoy a level of recognition that many never lived to receive. I commissioned him to do recreations of my first Golden Age comic, Namora #1 and the next issue as well. I wish I had had him do a three. In this pic (an older phone pic, sorry but it's all I have at hand), the artwork still has a protective overlay on it, as it was done in pencil and I'm not sure if it was sealed, so it would still be very susceptible to being smeared. Unlike some other artists who basically traced a projection of the art they were recreating, Ken did this by hand, with what appears to me the aid of a ruler for the logo. It's not an exact duplicate that way, but it's pretty darn close. I was thrilled when they arrived!
  5. Yes Cat, label too!!! How else are we gonna know that those pages are white?
  6. This is a tough book in grade and this one isn't even a pedigree! Super copy sir!!!
  7. Thanks Jimbo! I've been picking some of these Mexican Editions up lately, when I see them for reasonable prices.
  8. Yeah, same thing happened with my 17. By the time these were coming back from grading in Chicago, I'd already spent most of what I had planned on spending. I got the 19 from him on the spot, but had to make mental notes on the rest hoping to have another swing at them later on. I believe he had $5900 on the 17, but after fees and whatnot, I got it outta Comiclink in the lower $4000s. Sometimes it works to your advantage.
  9. That's exactly what I was thinking but wasn't sure that I didn't miss a similar cover in a different run. The similarities are probably too much to be a coincidence though and you're probably spot on with your assessment. I really love the way Everett draws underwater scenes and the girl & his signature are the icing on the cake!
  10. I picked this up recently and am diggin' it
  11. You are right about 4 not existing in high grade, but it is a VERY available issue. There have been 4 unrestored copies available to purchase in the last month, ranging from 3.0 to 6.0, including the 5.0 ow paged copy Comiclink auctioned a few weeks ago (went for JUST under $6200, nice price ). The 3 has been a bit less available than the 4 but I have seen a few recently. The only 14 I can recently recall is the copy from that collection with the dozen or so horizontal tape strip stains on the spine. A quick check of the census (including all label colors) shows that the 24 has the least graded CGC copies at 9, next 3 & 5 tie at 11, with 14 & 23 tied in 3rd place with 13. I was surprised by the 23, although come to think of it, I don't see it often.
  12. I don't see many of issues 5,13, 14 or 24. That doesn't necessarily mean that they're more rare than others though, they may just be books that people tend to hold on to.
  13. I'm pretty sure this issue was among the collection that Harley had in Chicago in either 2015 or 2016. My 17 and 19 were in that same batch. If it's not, it has the same grade and pq.
  14. Well I DID buy it from you and happy that I did!!! Now if you have the BACK cover ….
  15. I need to mention, IF you decide to sell it at some point in the future, I'd be interested. Here's the backstory: That lone book came into a shop here in the Twin Cities, in as I recall, the late 90s. The owner called me up, knowing I dig the early stuff. As I recall, I paid somewhere in the $800s for it. I shifted focus a number of years later and sold it to Jerome for pretty much my cost, maybe I made $50. Of course, I told him if he upgrades, I want a shot back at it. He's off the hook there though, as he didn't upgrade …. he sold the whole dang lot of 'em!!! It DOES have well above average paper for a New Fun. I've seen a fair amount of them, but never recall one with that nice of paper. These Minnesota winters I guess
  16. I totally get that! I've bought books with a lower number in the corner that looked nicer than the book with the higher number. The numerical grade is only one factor.
  17. My only More Fun that I currently have a pic of. You've seen it before, but here it is in this thread
  18. Steve, this looks like my old copy! In fact, it even looks like the oversized Mylar and board I purchased specifically for it!! It's my former copy for sure if it's got a piece off of the back cover about the size of a small paperback book.
  19. I will be closing this thread some time tonight.
  20. Spectacular copy!!! This pedigree really shines with its selection of early Detective issues!! Although the technical grade of a few are in the 3.5ish range, I personally think they make up for it with overall clean presentation and above typical page quality (only a few with c/ow). I predict that this pedigree's prestige will increase in years to come!
  21. Bright banana yellow and just so clean!!! PLUS that inside front cover has to make ya smile every time you open it!!! I'm an easy mark for rich cover colors and great paper. Thanks for sharing this
