  1. The things our mothers save. Was visiting mine recently, and she pulled out a sketch pad full of drawings and full-page comic panels I did as a teenager in the late 70s. I barely remember them, but I see that I was partial to Conan, DC war comics and, oh yeah, Jim Morrison...
  2. Fabulous book, congrats (personally I’m holding out for the “rare Canadian edition” 😜)
  3. Exactly. Because you're a stand-up pro. Even giving this guy the benefit of the doubt, he ripped me off.
  4. I realize it doesn’t exactly fit the purpose of this list (the guy’s a seller, not a buyer), but I’m so hacked off right now I can’t help myself. He cancelled a confirmed eBay sale by falsely saying there was an error with my shipping address, and then relisted it at almost twice the price. Sent me a message blaming a glitch with the eBay listing template (yeah right — I’ve listed thousands of comics and never had this problem)…
  5. I believe the same scammer occasionally posts a bogus listing for Punch Comics 12, which includes a photo directing you to a website. I’ve reported him several times, and the listings always disappear, only to pop up again under some other highjacked account.
  6. Hah, you should hang on to her! I got mine through a somewhat lucky break. Was scrolling thru some of my "saved search" results on eBay one night, and saw it had only been listed for auction, with a low starting bid, less than an hour. BUT it also had a "make offer" option (I'll never understand why you'd do that if you're auctioning something, but whatever). Anyway, I made an offer, and to my astonishment it was auto-accepted and payment went thru immediately. Moral of the story: always make an offer!
  7. Just got this rare beauty in hand (1st app. of Buck Rogers, Aug. 1928). Still can’t believe I managed to land it. Always wanted this one, and recently got lucky while trolling eBay…
  8. Perhaps. Still, I have to believe the general market decline has an impact, especially with marginal books where the cost-benefit for slabbing is very wobbly. If you buy a $100 book that was going for, say, $150 a year ago, why would you spend another $50 or so on CGC fees/shipping/taxes? Same goes for other collectibles.
  9. All of which makes me wonder how Blackstone views its CGC investment now that the mid-pandemic tulip bulb craze is fading…
  10. Dropped some $$$ on an ASM 129 CGC 6.5, got a notification today from UPS saying it was delivered. Uh, no, it was not delivered. Go online and tracking says it was dropped off, with signature, at an Amazon facility in another state. Go to eBay to message the seller and -- UH OH! -- the seller is "No longer a registered user." Call eBay, they confirm the account had been suspended and start processing a refund. Not sure it matters now, but here's the seller ID: cheyhi-34
  11. Some great Lout Fine art in this one (signing it as "E. Lectron" )...
  12. Wondering what opinions are on this one given what appears to be a manufacturing miscut that caused the cover to wrap around the back too far. Staple placement is also a little strange. At first, I wondered if it had been screwed around with, ie, someone trimmed and/or restapled it but that does not seem to be the case. Interior wraps are in really good shape. Still, I'm unsure how the defects could affect the grade...
  13. Some recent low grade WWII-era pickups… always happy to get a pre-Superboy AC with a Kirby & Simon cover, but I also liked the colors of Schomburg’s Pyroman on Startling…
  14. Picked this up super cheap for obvious reasons (besides the remaindered cover, it had several cutouts inside, brittle pages, etc). Since it was so far gone, I decided what the heck and did a full restoration to at least make it presentable...reasonably happy with the results, good enough to display on a shelf at least...
  15. On the topic of Out of the Shadows, picked up this one recently...Alex Toth art inside, plus a hanging...
