  1. I doubt you'll ever regret going a little over your maximum. I've overpaid for many books over the years and it rarely, if ever, bothered me much. But there have been a number of times where I didn't open my checkbook enough to get a great book. And it's the ones I let get away that I have some regrets about. I wasn't going to let this one get away if I could help it. Both the timing and the book were right so I was all in.
  2. Hey Rob, Is this the copy I just saw go for $18,025 in a comicconnect auction? It is, yes. I ended up going $25 over my max! Damn, congrats man. Great buy indeed!! I'm happy with it. I'm not happy about getting pushed to my absolute maximum, but I really wanted to get the #1 now before it gets too out of hand and really liked this particular copy. You think DD #1 in high grade will spike again? I don't think it's going to spike, but I also don't think it's going to drop any time soon and I'd rather not take the chance. I really wanted to finish this run so I can focus on some other titles for a while so gambling that I could buy on a dip isn't appealing to me especially since this copy fits in so well with the rest of my run. For what it's worth, the prices now aren't even at their historic highs for the book. It's increased a lot since 2013, but it's flat if you got back further than that. I'm proud to say I didn't set a record for the book (24750 in 2011 plus a couple of others) and the price I paid is in line with the 9.6 prices we've seen recently (around $36000)

  4. That 17 has great colors. That's a book that really benefits from great preservation.
  5. For the pre-Miller stuff, I don't have an #86 at all and then I need to upgrade #7, #72 (although mine is Western Penn, so I'd end up keeping two) and Annual 3 (from 9.2 in each case.) Beyond Miller, there are plenty. I need to pony up the $$ for a 168! After that I'm just going to continue to try to fill out the run as best I can until the end of the John Romita jr. run.

  7. Thanks! I think it's as good a 9.4 as I'm going to get. It was a great book off the press (well centered and square) and has been preserved pretty damn well since!
  8. I'll post it in the DD#1 thread when I get it in hand, but...
  9. Ah, that explains it. I don't list Rocky Mountain.
  10. As I've been saying for 13 years here: WTB the White Mountain Daredevil #1.
  11. I don't have record of a 9.0. Which pedigree is it from? if it's the White Mountain copy.
  12. Sweet book! It's great looking for the grade
  13. I'm still looking for a 9.4, but... I messed around and bought a mid-grade copy
  14. A new one I just discovered- there was a Stormwatch #1 preview included with polybagged versions of Divine Right #1 as well as polybagged versions of Stormwatch #1. The Stormwatch #1 preview Lord knows how many exist. I was able to buy copies of both versions, but I'm probably the only person looking for them
  15. It's a gut feeling thing but I wouldn't blink at $250 on that. Yeah, to me $250-300 would have been a solid result. Now if I could just get another Stormwatch 37, I'd be able to see what that would do on the open market. Stormwatch 37 is 5-10 times harder than this book, but isn't as "current." I really wonder what it would do right now. Hopefully I'll score another one one of these days
  16. It's higher than I expected (I was hoping for $300), but, in hindsight, I guess I didn't really know what to expect. It's the first time this book has sold in 9.8 and is the only one currently available. The next one graded/sold will be interesting.
