  1. this is after SDCC Weird It depends on the day they get into the system. The books aren't "received" at the show. it takes a while to get into the system from a con drop-off. Also, there's some weird alchemy. Things aren't purely FIFO.
  2. I actually got a DD vol. 2 #5 (variant) and vol. 2 #9 both 9.8 in that batch as well. It's just about my best sub of all time. Everything came in as expected/hoped.
  3. Yeah, I'm trying to finish my Byrne run ( http://comics.www.collectors-society.com/registry/comics/PeopleSetDetail.aspx?PeopleSetID=74309 ) and was looking for 289 and 292. I got five candidates at 9.6+ and I got 3 9.8 289s and 1 9.8 and 1 9.6 292.
  4. I'll put up a WTB, too. If it's half as successful as my last one I'll be pumped- I bought five Byrne FFs in about 24 hours and ended up getting 4 9.8s and one 9.6.One little 9.4 should be doable.
  5. $975 http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=537141 I won five books in that auction and just watched that #55 spiral away from me. I think I bowed out at like $500. I have faith an 86 will show up at some point. I'm going to go full-court press on trying to find one since it's the last hole (other than #1 which is easier to source if much more expensive.) I don't have anything in the pipeline. I don't have anything for the #72 or the Annual #3 either. I don't mind the 72 as much as it's just a 9.2 but it's Western Penn, I think upgrading the Annual #3 is going to be beast There's one 9.8, six 9.6s and two 9.4s. That's tougher than 86 (one 9.8, four 9.6s and seven 9.4s) I hear you about #86. I'd be doing the exact same thing. Exact. I think the Annual #3 won't be too bad. Have you started to look for candidates yet or just seeing what pops up slabbed? I can't remember where I got mine....but I know that one was purchased in a CGC case. I would think there would be a decent number of nice HG raw ones out and about. Not many have been subbed, that's for sure. I'll start looking for raw copies of Annual #3, too. That's a good idea. I haven't been looking for them raw at all and I think the only graded copy I've ever seen is the one I bought.
  6. I'd love to see that Oakland 86 resurface

  8. Yeah, it's a great cover. I can't wait to get the book in hand. I think the scan is a little light so it's going to be even nicer in person.
  9. Wanna try for a 9.8...? Maybe not with this one, but I'm sure your powers will be called on for at least one of the above slots. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
  10. By the way... I pulled the trigger on this tonight. It was expensive, but less expensive than the last #55 9.4 that sold at ComicConnect (that went for over $900) so I don't feel all that bad about it. I'm now down to 2 holes (#1 and #86) and 3 upgrades (#7,#72 and Annual #3) for the 1-157 set in 9.4 or better.
  11. A few weeks ago, I put out a call for some Byrne era Fantastic Fours. I got 5 9.6+ candidates from the board. All five hit the mark- 4 9.8s and one 9.6. Add to that a couple of random DD v2s and it's a pretty good sub.
  12. Killer spine, for sure. I'm really excited to see how it does. Hopefully it will be an outrageous, head-scratching result. Of course, since it's a book I'm selling and not a book I'm buying it'll probably sell for $20.
  13. I never shared a photo of the #69. It's up on ComicLink now in the auction preview.
  14. They get paid $5 for the pre-screen if the book fails
  15. "shipped/safe?" Shipped/safe books should be in your hands. If it's "received" then that's perfectly normal for slower tiers. Books sit at "received" for a long- time. I double checked and they say shipped/safe and hasn't changed in awhile. I do not have them in my hand and cannot see the grades. I assume they are waiting for other books to be ready before they ship, but I assume at this point I would able to see the grades, instead of getting this response when I click on invoice number. "Details not yet available for invoice xxxxxxx. Grades are not displayed until submission ships." Sounds like a multi-ship order? Shoot CGC an email and I'm sure they'd be happy to send you the grades. Yeah, that means the grades should be there. To the OP are you a collector's society member? You could look up the grades that way, too. I am a member of both CGC and Collectors Society. How do you look up your grades through collectors society? https://www.cgccomics.com/grading/verify-cgc-comic.aspx invoice # + three digits starting with 001 for the first book in the sub.

  18. I just had one of my best subs in ages, thanks to Joe. As some of you may know, I'm closing in on a Daredevil 1-157 set in 9.4. I need the #1, an upgrade on my #7 (I have a 9.2) and then a random assortment of books. Up until recently that list included #69 and #122. Let's talk about both because both are deserving of some specific kudos. The #122 I bought raw on ebay. The scan looked great. I paid a premium for it for a raw book ($50) but I need the book so that's that. I got it in the mail and it had definitely started its journey to me in high(ish) grade. It had some small issues, but overall was a clean book. Except for the CRUSHED ULC that had occurred during shipment. Packed in an envelope Anyway, I looked at it for a little bit and thought... "you know what, that might just work." I messaged RMA and told him I had a book I was "interested to see what he could do with..." The answer came in the mail today- CGC 9.6 without a hint of the crushed ULC. The second book is a little less circuitous but just as impressive. I bought a Voldemort 69 9.4 from Greg Reece (which IIRC was listed as being pressed already) Since I'm going for a registry set Voldemort won't do. I subbed it to CGC... 9.2 Again, I turned to RMA. Reading the notes it seemed like it would be easy to ensure we got to 9.4 on the resub.... We sure did. It came back CGC 9.8
  19. I've already packaged up the 69 , but we'll see it soon at ComicLink.
