  1. Thanks, it's getting there. At this point I'm going to be down to 1 or 2 books a month, it seems like so finishing up 1-157 is going to take a while Looking at some other books will be fun.
  2. I should start doing the associated characters, or maybe start on the Miller run, because these books are all awesome (also, I'm at the point where the books I want are either really expensive or are coming along piecemeal.)
  3. Thanks! I've been trying to win a copy of this book for a while. I'm happy to get one this nice.
  4. This just came in the mail. I won it a month ago from CL. I forgot that I'd won it.
  5. I remember back in the day when there were no 168s in 9.8. I still don't get tired of seeing them
  6. 3rd time is a charm, for certain. The later books are a drag. It's interesting because I'm working on the 1-157 set. As soon as I finish it, I'm doing the Miller stuff which will be like night and day in terms of availability. Books that are months apart are going to be 50x easier to get. A great example is 156. The last one went for $310 in 9.8, I think and nothing is in GPA post-2011 over 9.6. Compare that to the $5-600 or whatever you'd spend for a 9.8 158- an actual key book you can find any day of the week (I just wish I'd won the Western Penn copy in 2010 ) Of course... that's what makes it fun.
  7. WOW! That's a beaut! I really look forward to one day start picking up the older issues! Thanks! It's just about as nice as a 9.4 from 1967 is going to be. It's a sweet copy. It's funny, while they're cheaper, the books from the mid-to-late1970s are much harder to pick up. There are less of them graded and the production is much worse so looking for nice copies can be an arduous experience. I've had to bite the bullet on more than one book with a squared miswrap just to fill a longstanding hole. As evidence, the longest unbroken run I have is 34-53. After that my biggest unbroken run is 123-129.
  8. Veering on topic, here's another recent purchase
  9. I can't remember a series that went from GREAT to godawful so fast. After Brubaker I found that series unreadable. I didn't even finish the first arc before I dropped it.
  10. I <3 that cover! (thumbs u It's a super nice book, in hand. And yeah, I'm a super fan of both of these.
  11. Very cool book. Nice looking for an 8.0.
  12. The only thing I won from the Heritage auction (not for lack of trying)
  13. Very cool info. Thanks for sharing. Speaking of sharing
  14. Wow, that is really cool! Yeah, that's a really neat book.
  15. I agree that it will sell for what it sells for... but I've always had difficulty accepting this notion, at least in my own collecting of something being 'as good as it gets except for the 10 others locked up elsewhere' sort of situation. I.e. If I'm at a restaurant and I want a steak and am willing to pay $30 for it, but all they have is chicken which is normally $15, I'm not paying $30 for the chicken because its 'as good as it gets' on the menu. Its still chicken. It didn't magically turn into steak because there is no steak to buy. Reading through this thread my gut reaction seems about right. this is a cool, but weird piece. Late in the run, two boards... who knows what it will sell for. Of course, that's the fun of this kind of thing.
  16. Would this be worth significantly more if it were on one board?
  17. Personally I've won just one book in the past few weeks. I don't have a great scan, but I grabbed that Western Penn #32 on eBay a few weeks ago. I've got 16 WP copies now.
  18. I go away for a few weeks and this thing shows up. BOOM
  19. Hey, I've been busy AND I've been getting beat at auctions (by some of you I assume ) I did win this recently. Minus the bindery tear it's like a 9.8.
  20. I had these two and the Curator I just won lined up along my wall. While it's couple of years newer the Rocky Mountain copy stands up very well next to the other two pedigrees. It's a fresh looking book.
  21. Rob you ever want to rid yourself of that unsightly stain on the collection, make sure and let me know ASAP. (thumbs u I can't even believe I keep it in the house, it's so unsightly
