  1. Unless, I'm mistaken, I believe the answer is "children"
  2. There's also a CGC graded 8.5 Western Penn #1. Metro had it for sale for a long time.
  3. 4. It was Unexpected 161. Your guess reminded him of the title and he found it at the DC Indexes site.
  5. comics scribe Mark Millar is wondering about a DC horror book from his childhood: "Okay, as you know, I'm doing up my study right now and filling the walls with covers that mean something to me. I never actually OWNED this comic, but I remember seeing it in ads when I was a kid. You remember those ads? the ones that showed nine covers in a single page and you had to squint to read the text? I'm guessing this comic was either Ghosts or The Witching Hour and the cover had a couple coming into a house and saying how pleased they were to be out of the rain on a stormy night, etc, in this place where it was REALLY SAFE. Cue, horrifying, witchy/demon face on the right hand side of the cover laughing because he/ she/ it knows this couple are getting bumped off ASAP. Looking at www.comics.org, I can find nothing. What's weird is that pretty much every cover from this period (75/76/77) seems to be a play on the idea of someone coming in a door on the left side of the cover and thinking they're safe NOT REALIZING something monstrous is waiting for them on the right side of the panel. And what's even weirder is that it works every time. This was employed a lot in mid 70s horror, but quite a few times in the superhero books too (especially The Flash). Anyway, please help. MM "
  6. If you really want to just READ them, there's always BitTorrent. Normally I wouldn't mention it because I WANT people to buy comics to read, but the rights holders get exactly the same amount of money from a back issue sale that they do from BT= $0.00 Paying collector prices to simply read a story because there's no legit outlet to buy the books? That officially sucks. BT is how I have my only "copy" of Flex Mentallo. If someone really does want a set, I've got one for sale that's going on eBay this week- most books VF/NM or (much) better. PM me to stop the eBay listing.
  7. I've spent no more than $10 for every one that I've ever bought on ebay. That's about what I'd expect to pay for the 1994 and 1995 Christies catalogs. I'm just waiting until I see them. I'd pay more than that for the 1992 Sotheby's catalog.
  8. If someone does outbid you, rest easy. That's the easiest of the Sotheby's catalogs to get... Speaking of relative difficulty... anyone got an extra copy of the tough 1992 catalog lying around? Or the 1994 and 1995 Catalogs from Christies?
  9. That's just the graded books. A good percentage of the collection isn't included.
  10. I LOVE Fiction House books. I've got a bunch of auctions to work my way through, but I'll post some Fiction House books I have already scanned tomorrow.
  11. Found another one. This hits it from all sides. Supa v. Hammer AND it's got an "I'm taking my ball and going home" sympathy post that starts it. Collectors' Society Message Boards: Last post...
  12. All this JC/Hammer memory lane stuff reminded me of this poll, which had totally slipped my mind: Who would you rather sit next to on a long flight? Hammer or JC? Hammer is still winning by a wide margin (especially when we throw out JC's three IDs)
  13. I don't know that I've even read it, or what name it was posted under, but Hammer's "Bag of Cash" thread, just on that image alone, has to be up there at the top somewhere.
  14. I'd nominate the "Most Positive Contributor" thread that degenerated into a vicious flame war when JC offered himself up for inclusion as one of the nominees.
  15. I just wanted to clear the negative subject line... Kudos to all the forumites I've dealt with succesfully!
  16. What a jagoff. Weren't they all $2-3 books? Tool. Yeah, the most expensive book was probably $4...
  17. Just wanted to point out (since I'm relisting all the books) that the little goober stiffed me for something like a dozen books. The word on the street is that the little [#@$%!!!] is now posting as bullseye. Be forewarned that there's a little thrill bidding flake on the loose.
  18. Never even heard of Okajima. Or Okijima, for that matter. "Okajima" refers to the family name of the young Japanese girl from California (who apparently spent time in an internment camp) who put together the collection. They were read carefully, wrapped in newspaper, piled in short stacks and stored in a shed until the 90s when they were discovered. From what I've seen, they're nice books
