  1. I really like the Flash trailer and will see it opening weekend.
  2. Yes, thanks for that, I may have gotten that mixed up. Again, great job of bringing this subject and Dave's story to us.
  3. I just stumbled onto this thread while doing a search for Bangzoom's original thread and was thoroughly captivated by this story and how it was revealed post by post. @sfcityduck well done on this work. One note, the story of Ernie Gerber ripping off the mom doesn't surprise me after listening to Jay Maybruck's interview with V. Zurzolo many years ago. While he gave the comic world an incredible resource with the guides, Gerber seems to have been a really crappy person.
  4. Just got back from seeing this and I really enjoyed it. Action packed and delivered a lot of cool moments from both a story perspective and a nostalgia perspective. I was 12 years old when the original played in theaters and I saw it twice. It feels good to finally get a wrap on this series and I like the nostalgic touches they gave us at the end of the movie- just wonderful.
  5. Watched it for the 2nd time last night when it became available on Apple TV. Here are some observations: 1. It seemed to go by quicker. The 3 hours went by quicker than it felt in the theater. 2. Some things worked better the second time while others did not. For instance I enjoyed prof hulk more on this viewing but thought the cap America ending wasn’t as strong. 3. Iron man’s death still hits hard. 4. Didn’t realize the carnage that Hawkeye brought on was as bad as it was until this time. 5. Still enjoyed the time travel scenes but they do lose something on 2nd viewing. However, there is more to see and appreciate in them. Overall, I think I enjoyed it as much and maybe slightly better.
  6. Well said for most of this. I can't go into details as to why Pattinson would be a good Batman other than the fact he can act. Michael Keaton looks nothing like the Batman I grew up liking in the Bronze comics of the early 70's, but the guy could act. He did a good enough job that his Batman movies helped give the genre enough credibility to continue with big budgets. Maybe Pattinson will bulk up some but more importantly can he portray what you call "grit". I agree he will need to exude it because that's what it will take for the movie to hit a home run.
  7. I'm optimistic about Pattinson pulling this off. I was one of the guys back in the late 80's that thought Michael Keaton as Batman was going to be awful. Turned out I was wrong. More than a few people on these boards thought Chris Evans would be a terrible Cap. Dude ending up being a fantastic Cap. No doubt this is a big gig for Pattinson and there is a lot riding on him hitting a home run here, so here's to hoping he does it.
  8. Yeah it's always a thought I have at Oscar time to watch the nominated movies, then I remember these are the movies voted by the people that voted Driving Miss Daisy as Best Picture. Talk about a movie that no one cares to watch again. Sheesh. You are dead on about the critics, there is a certain snobbery that they have to uphold. And, I'm with you, I'll take the escapism every time.
  9. Biggest farce in the last few decades? Not hardly. Actually this is one they got right and the movie has aged quite well. Somehow professional Hollywood movie critics have us convinced that a great movie has to be slow paced with little to no action and have some great meaningful dialogue between 2 characters for it to be a Best Picture. Bull . I like the King's Speech. Wonderful movie with superb acting but better than Inception? No way. American Beauty over the Sixth Sense? Please. ROTK combines action, scenery, costuming, good acting and superb writing to produce an entertaining movie that satisfies all age groups, male and female. I'll the buy into the position that it winning Best Picture may have been a nod to the trilogy as a whole, but even with that, this movie stands up to scrutiny. Don't sell this movie short because you like it. It's very worth being a Best Picture and for the right reasons.
  10. This. Even though I hope it's not what happens. I agree that they caught lightning in a bottle, mainly with the actor choices. When Iron Man first hit theaters, I thought "no way" this will be a hit. In no way, shape or form, did I think that Iron Man was an A-list character worthy of a movie and I collected Iron Man as a kid. However, once I watched the movie on DVD, I thought it was great and that was solely due to RDJ's performance. He brought the cool factor to the character. My wife didn't give two craps about superhero movies, except for Batman, until Iron Man and it was mostly because of RDJ. Marvel continued to hit the mark on the actors they selected for Cap, Thor and Black Widow. All of the actors were just cool. That is hard to replicate, especially when you are looking to find actors that available for multiple movies over a ten year period. What we have to trust is the ability of Feige and others to properly cast the future characters and keep the current ones under long term deals. Maybe this is just the start. We all love good stories and when those stories are fashioned together in a overall arc that reveals itself piece by piece, it's attractive. My guess is that Black Panther is the key. Marvel tapped into something big with him and the portrayal of Wakanda. With this arc completed, Marvel has surely earned credibility with casual movie goers, so let's see if extends into some relatively unfamiliar characters.
  11. I rarely go to a movie on its opening weekend but made an exception for this one just so I could avoid inadvertent spoilers from friends and the media. The wife and I went to the 8pm show and arrived 45 minutes early. We got our pick of seats and then the theater filled up. There might have been 2 empty seats, maybe. Incredible crowd and I've rarely seen anticipation like this for a movie. All age groups and genders which is so cool. I'm glad I went when I did since just to enjoy the crowd and their reactions. Bottom line - I liked it. I definitely prefer Infinity War better since it is all out action all the way through, but this one had other payoffs that were simply great. I was expecting a more action oriented movie along the lines of Infinity War so for the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the movie I just sat back and enjoyed the story this Avengers movie was telling. It has some complexity, which is good. I really was not expecting the ending but it delivered an incredible emotional punch. What I didn't like: 1. Was not a big fan of the BannerHulk. It was borderline goofy to me. 2. I really expected Thor to be a bigger part of this story. Not happy that they never put him back to peak form to take on Thanos. 3. Expected Capt. Marvel to be a bigger part of the story. 4. This may be the end of the line for me in this series. Not sure I'm good with how they are transitioning out the characters that I have enjoyed over the last 10 years. I know it was due to happen at some time but I would have preferred some other ending. My mind may change on this over the coming days and weeks, but for now I am a tad disappointed. What I liked: 1. Final battle - seriously kick butt cool to bring everyone back like that 2. I like the fill in sequences as they went back to get the stones. Stroke of briliance 3. They way they tied it all back to Iron Man which started this whole masterstroke of movies 4. Wife enjoyed the girl power charge on Thanos 5. Cap wielding the hammer 6. Ant man 7. While I'm not wild about the ending, it is an incredible way to wrap up this storyline. I like the narration by Tony at the end like the directors are talking to us about how to handle this ending. It helped.
  12. Finally went to the theater tonight to see Aquaman and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Overall it was a decent story and it kept us engaged throughout. I'll admit that when I go to the movies, I typically park my brain and just enjoy the ride that the director puts me on. This was an enjoyable ride that had me engrossed in this undersea world. I'm a comic purist to an extent so the whole Momoa version of Aquaman is completely not the comic book version from the Bronze Age comics I loved as a kid, but when I put that aside I really enjoy the character. The supporting characters, especially Amber's queen Mera, were fun to watch. Overall I think this would be in my top 10 DC movies.
  13. Thoroughly enjoyed Fallout. The stunts, the locations and the action was worth more than the price of admission. One of the few movies I considered go back to the theater to see again.
  14. While thinking through all of the comic movies over the last 40 years, one thing is very clear to me - We are in the golden age of comic movies. While I have two classics as my favorites, the rest of them are recent ones because they have become so good, especially in the MCU. One note: From a comic standpoint, I have mostly been a DC guy, but that changes in movie world. What Marvel has accomplished and brought to the screen over the last 10 years is beyond remarkable especially in the piece by piece build up to Infinity War. I'm over 50 so I grew up with Bronze Age Marvel and DC comics. My son-in-laws, who are in their 20's now and never read comics like I did, got jacked waiting on the Avengers movie to come out. I don't know how they do it, but each movie gets better and better by expanding the scope that is carried in each one. So, here is my list: 1. Superman the Movie (1978) - Finally, a serious big budget super hero movie that was a hit. 2. Batman (1989) - On some days this is my #1. Incredible the way Gotham was recreated and the whole mood of the movie fit the character. 3. Avengers - This was a dream come true and it delivered on all levels 4. Avengers Infinity War - Unreal that Marvel would put this many characters in so many settings on one screen. Comic book lover's dream. 5. Captain America - I'm a sucker for WWII movies and this was perfectly done from casting to settings to capturing the essence of the character. 6. Captain America: Civil War - Battle royale between major characters? What? YES!! 7. Batman Begins - Such a cool reboot of the franchise and it's a great movie even if you don't like superheroes 8. Wonder Woman - One of the few movies that made me feel better and walk a little straighter when it was over. 9. Iron Man - In some respects this should be higher on my list, but the more recent movies are just better. Still one of my favorites. 10. Thor - This is one my wife equally enjoys, but for different reasons. She loves her some Chris Hemsworth. I like the portrayal of Asgard and the appearance of SHIELD.
  15. I've been watching this on Amazon Prime off and on for the last several months. Good stuff. Highly recommend it.
