  1. I think the first episode was alright, but a little slow. Unlike Sleepy Hollow, which I thought put too much of the origin into the pilot, Agents of Shield seems like its going to do a slow reveal of just who is behind the Extremis mystery. Few new shows have the daunting obstacle of dealing with so many current fan expectations, because they simply aren't tied in with multiple contemporary movie franchises. Even shows like Battlestar Gallactica get a pass by most fans out of the gate, because they are essentially reimagining a universe and storyline that fans already know, but this show has to be true to the continuity and depth of the movies that came before and lay the groundwork for those yet to come.

Again, a lot of expectations for a network TV show. I thought it was a B- based on what I saw with Gregg Clark's acting getting an A- and saving the show from real embarrassment. The hacker girl was way too annoying, eye candy or not and the rest of the 20-something cast was pretty forgettable. I'm sure I'll watch all the new episodes, but am hoping for something a little more.

  2. Do you know how many Church books you have in your collection now? Must be hundreds.

I believe it is a little over 300.

    :applause:

Soon to be adding one of mine to your collection too. :)

Awesome books and story. Thanks for sharing. Those early Jumbo covers have some excellent drawing going on.

Pfft...and what would YOU know about excellent drawing sir..?!?

BTW, Erin and I are taking the kiddo to LegoLand in two weeks for Brick-or-Treat, you should bring the clan.

Now back to your regularly scheduled drool-fest.

  3. I have been doing some serious organizing. I have access to almost all my Star Comics. Near full runs of both series of Peter Porker and some pretty sweet anniversary covers are the highlights.

I have near full runs of most all of the Star books, about 40 9.6/9.8 slabs, and a half dozen OA covers that only recently has anyone given a about.

    Star Comics rule!

Anyone have a super nice Marvel Age 17 and 19? A must for the Star Comics fan.

  4. Looks like they may be getting their Modern Submissions down a little...60 Day Current Turnaround

Does that count the 4-5 weeks in encapsulation and QC?

140 moderns sent in late April. Graded June 28. Stuck in Encapsulation Hell ever since with little hope they'll be done before August.

It shouldn't take that long to encapsulate books, it really shouldn't.

  5. 282

Agreed. Funny to see yet another former Copper Age "hot" book fire back up. I guess if you stay in the hobby long enough, you get to see the patterns first-hand. [/quote

Interesting, I know I have a bunch of those somewhere.

Funny thing is, I know I probably have several thousand dollars in worthwhile Copper books just sitting in my garage. Need to find the time soon to go through them and cherry pick the best for certification.

  6. Had a great haul from the Orlando Comic Expo today....multiple copies each of ASM 300, NM 98, and a ton of quality dollar comics (like about a half dozen 9.8 potential Thor 344s). Woot!

Can I ask what kind of prices those NM 98's were fetching at the con?

$90-$100 each in raw is pretty common nowadays.

  7. This is not unlike the Copper collection I found earlier this year. No X-Factor # 5 & # 6s though. :sorry:

But there are so many other books throughout the late 70's and 80's. For instance, I just saw GPA numbers for Star Wars #42 are around $200 each because Boba Fett and some other bounty hunters are on the cover, the same goes for Spider-Woman #1. I have approximately 50 copies of these that I'm mining through today. It's like I just picked them up from the printer shop before they even went to the distributors.

Certainly sounds like you found your own little Copper Mine. Congrats! :applause:

  8. Kind of goes along the same lines with the Vikings books. Dave only worked on one cover but for some reason the multiple variants are listed in the registry?

MikeThibodeaux's cover(s) are often mistaken for Dave's work?

I agree. But I can also understand why someone may assume this...

    over this...

is a Dave Stevens cover. Other than it saying "Dave Stevens" on the second cover, I would have never known.

Clearly, most of it was Kirby, or Stevens emulating Jack's work.
