  1. Green Lantern has always been my favorite. I cannot remember the name of the program, but in the 70's there was a show that would read SA comics and the first one I saw was with Tomar Re and Hal Jordan opposite a mirror. Since then I was hooked. My copies are all pretty low grade, I got some of them slabbed myself from my boxes and bought a few on eBay I did not have. I also included the sketch Mike Grell drew --- who ranks in my top three for GL artists. I also have some Bronze Age reprints of GL/GA that were bound for personal use for Denny O'Neil (greatest GL writer imho) to keep on his bookshelf. Also, I should apologize for poor picture quality --- am terrible with the phone camera.
  2. I agree completely. I didn't really like the Larson Nova series, but enjoyed the one that spun out of Annihilation. I honestly, thought that was setting him and the Nova Corps up to be Marvel's Gl.
  3. I really enjoyed it at first, but I remember thinking they took the "bad luck" of Peter Parker and just made it exponentially worse (imo). Still I really liked the design and the similarity to the green lantern corps. If I remember right, you had to finish the final story in the Fantastic Four, which actually got me interested in that book at the time.
  4. I have this one as well. Just got it back today. It was the only one I ever bought off the shelf. Went to Cliff's Comics in Deland, Florida and bought it when I was about 15. Shocked it held up given the number of times I have flipped through it in more than 30 years.
  5. I hear you there. I just got these two back today --- and I am very happy how they graded given the poor attention they were given by my grubby little hands over the decades. In all that time, this X-factor was the only double cover I got.
  6. I just wanted to say thanks for all the help you have been giving me in getting ready for this convention!!! Thanks again!
  7. This is one we have had in box in the attic since it came to the US in the early 90's.
  8. Thanks for helping me get a grasp of the numbers. Here are the notes I had for the Hulk 181 and I will try and post some pictures in the spare a grade thread suggested here. Notes on Hulk 181 Notes:spine stress breaks color front cover, color rub near spine on front coverfront cover creases, bends, edge wear, some breaks color, small stains, slight color fadingback cover creases, edge wear, some barely breaks color, small stains
  9. Thanks for all the great responses! I will try and get some pictures, sadly I will only have the hulk 181 in the slab as I did not take pictures beforehand. Thanks again to everyone for helping me out here. As others surmised, I do not really plan on selling anything in my lifetime, but want to make sure my wife at least has some idea of which books are valuable.
  10. Hello! I have never sent comics into CGC --- although I did create an account years ago. I am a comic book fan, but not the best collector. Most of my books are what I would call readers. I have read several threads here asking a question similar to mine, but was hoping someone would be kind enough to help me out in making some specific choices. I do not really plan on selling my comics, but after a health scare last year I have been considering getting some slabbed or maybe pressed and slabbed. I thought maybe some specific examples would help. My main question is would it be worth it, in other people's opinions to get these books graded and should I consider getting them pressed/cleaned. I know the return time can be fairly long, but that is not really a concern right now. I really just want to make sure it would be easy for my wife to sell the books when I am gone. Example 1. I got my hulk 181 slabbed by a competitor. Mainly because I wanted my wife to have an idea of which book to sell and they had a representative at the convention I attended. I did not get it pressed or cleaned. They graded it at a six. I was curious if people thought it would be worth it to send it in, get it pressed/cleaned and then regraded. Would that be very expensive to do? Example 2 I still have my Silver Surfer 1. It is not in great shape but my old school eyes would probably place it on the higher end of good or maybe VG. Is that the type of book that is worth grading/pressing or just better to keep raw? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
