  1. hey everyone just wanted to let u know I am gonna post some puck magazine art here: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=3874791#Post3874791
  2. It wasn't only comic books that had these types of covers. Here is the cover to a 1944 magazine from my personal collection of vintage magazines.
  3. The process back then to color those was very complicated. Puck Magazine at one point had "the world's largest lithographic pressworks under a single roof". Here from wikipedia is a discription of the complicated process to color those images (I collect Puck Magazines too by the way): "The process of chromolithography is chemical, because an image is applied to a stone or zinc plate with a grease-based crayon. (Limestone and zinc are two commonly-used materials in the production of chromolithographs.) After the image is drawn onto stone, the stone is gummed with gum arabic solution and weak nitric acid, and then inked with oil-based paints and passed through a printing press along with a sheet of paper to transfer the image to the paper. Colors may be added to the print by drawing the area to receive the color on a different stone, and printing the new color onto the paper. Each color in the image must be separately drawn onto a new stone or plate and applied to the paper one at a time. It was not unusual for twenty to twenty-five stones to be used on a single image.[4] Each sheet of paper will therefore pass through the printing press as many times as there are colors in the final print. In order that each color is placed in the right position in each print, each stone or plate must be precisely ‘registered,’ or lined up, on the paper using a system of register marks."

  5. The Archie digests you find at the check out counters of grocery stores was my first exposure to comicbooks as a very very small child. I bought a lot over those first few years at least one a week everytime I'd go shopping with my dad. I eventually ended up trading them all for Store Credit when I got into Superhero books. I've always enjoyed Archie and I like the style he was drawn in during the golden age so I figured I'd buy my first golden age Archie Comic. I"m pretty happy with the purchase.
  6. I dunno what movie you are talking about here...and only movie I know of that mentions this comic is Coyotee Ugly. But I can tell you for a fact it most definately wasn't Clerks or any other Keven Smith Movie.
  7. Someone once sent in 3 Amazing Spider-man #129 Punisher movie reprints, it turned out he had bought them for 300 bucks each because he thought they were the real issue.
  8. Books that have been set on fire and put out with water. I love when those come in.
  9. Other than comics I collect action figures, StarWars stuff, vintage stuff of political nature, vintage magazines, vintage photos, and movie promo items like promo buttons, posters and standees.
  10. KUDOS TO DIVADRABNUD! One of the most trustworthy members of this forum. Thanks for everything.
  11. I'm not curretnly reading it, but I have heard good things. It's an updated version of the old "Worlds Finest" books where Bats and Supes teamed up each month. I believe the first 6 (?) issues are available in tpb form or hardback. The series is pretty 'hot' right now (I think I've seen #1's going for $8-10 at shows), so I wouldn't buy the back issues if you just want to read it. Yea I just sold a #1 on ebay for around 10 dollars.
  12. What kind of meat is in "Disco Stew"? Any cottage cheese in there? I'm thinking more on the lines of...Disco Stu.
