  2. Fedex it seems can be reasoned with and have staff who understand how some items are liable for duties and some aren't. However whilst the Ebay International Team reply back to you - they can only parrot that 'charges are correct' in semi literate english and don't have any ability to read or comprehend customs laws (even when sent links direct to the UK government website which clearly states 'printed media' is exempt). Didn't used to be a problem on Ebay. Surely illegal to charge fees on items that are exempt and then refuse to refund?!
  3. Comics in the UK are classified as 'printed media' and therefore duty free: https: www.gov.uk/guidance/pay-no-import-duties-and-vat-on-miscellaneous-documents-and-related-articles I've purchased £10,000s worth from Ebay, Comiclink, Heritage, Comicconnect etc and never paid a penny. I'd had no issues buying internationally on Ebay as long as the seller had listed it in the right category of books/comics. However a few months ago - I noticed Ebay started quoting 'duties' on some comics once they went above about $400. I got charged $35 on a purchase in November yet $0 on another items of the same value from the same seller at the same time. However I filled in their form: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/paying-items/paying-tax-ebay-purchases?id=4771 and got it back after chasing a couple of times. On Boxing Day I got charged $86 on a Batman 10 ($1800 cost). Again filled in the form but have now spent the past two months banging my head against the wall trying to get their 'EbayIntlShipping' department to refund me. They just say 'it's correct' with no explanation as to why they can charge my $86 duties on an item that is duty free under UK law. I've had about 7 responses - but just get incoherent replies from people who I guess dont speak English as a first language. Latest one even admitted the first refund was correct but still say the second one 'did not apply' ?! Again - no explanation as to why one comic purchase would get a refund and the next not. 'First I want to apologize for this is not an experience we ant you to have. I want to assure that I did look into that previous refund, and that order, 15-10813-79364, did have VAT charged through eBay check out. We did indeed refund you for those fees because they were charged incorrect. This newer purchase, 02-10979-09798, we did not charge those fees because the did indeed did not apply for the order. You can view a breakdown in your Order Details. You may need to click on the blue order total to show the full breakdown. This will confirm that VAT was not charges on this order.' I know one UK collector in the same boat. Must be lots more? Ebay continues to quote 'duties' now on many comic listings so it's stopping me from buy GA as having to pay needless tax and massive headache trying to get it back. Also raises the question - where does the money go? UK government not asking for it. Do they just keep it?!
  4. Does anyone know where the line is drawn on 'restoration'. Every single one of mine that has restoration mentioned has been given purple label . But this Batman 14: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116047850570? has 'restoration' noted but blue label.... It's from the 'DC Universe Collection'. A complete set of Batmans which I viewed before slabbing at Sotherbys. Seems they all got graded and every other book from 1-16 got a purple label: https://pbagalleries.com/auctions/catalog/id/666 But this one was spared.... No takers so far and price being dropping - so can't help but think the word 'restoration' affects the value even if blue label. Plus it's from a collection of restored books so does this have 'negative pedigree' ?!
  5. Feel there is a bit of snobbery when it comes to restoration....Is restoration looked down up so much in other collectibles e.g. fine art ? If you can afford blue label golden age books - including grails - good for you. But how many can do that? Surely even some of the biggest fish can't do blue all the way to the highest echelons of GA collecting (i.e. Batman 1/Tec 27). Surely 99.9% of collectors have financial ceilings and the only way to get through to books you want is to accept green or purple labels? Or go without.... Some of my favourite books aren't blue label. But I like them all the same and would prefer them over low grade blue labels personally.

  8. not me..... How many people can access? Certainly going to thin the herd for auctions ?!
  9. Seems to be completely down again Surely they'll have to postpone auctions (again ) tonight if people can't login and bid THERE WAS AN ERROR DURING PROCESSING OF REQUESTED PAGE. 10. not going to be funny if it goes down during the middle of a big auction
  11. I was bidding on the many Golden Age Batmans they had . Bidding was fierce Monday! Most went higher than most recent Heritage prices (I'd done my homework). The two I got I had to pay top dollar for. As always though on Comiclink - there are just so many books - loads go way under FMV. Got a couple of golden age book (obviously no as fashionable as Batman) that went very cheap. Some big books went cheap a month ago. Like couple of FF5s. A restored FF1 (5.5 I think ) went for 6k. I was second place and was the winner until a bid seemed to happen on the second it closed. So it's not like you need the website to go down to get a bargain / get a poor sale.
  12. Well they do say all publicity is good publicity! Maybe word has gotten around and more people will come hoping for bargains - but end up pushing prices up?! I note they're still dodging weekends (so not head to head with Heritage + a zillion Ebay Sunday sales?).
  13. My 26 wins prior to the shutdown still in my basket to checkout . My purchase history all there. At first glance - it seems to be back to where we were Tuesday afternoon
