  1. I love this cover. Throwbacks are so
  2. Does anyone remember T.M. Maple (i think that was his name). He wrote to DC almost every issue for every title and had letters published all the time. Who was he? Is he still around? Was he a collector or just a fan?
  3. I think on the nosebleed grades on big books the difference between the floor low 400s and the ceiling 500-600+ is if there are two committed bidders that want the book. This is an auction and you have to have two to set new records. I would bet the bidder would be on the phone or in person that wants it. I certainly would not trust the interweb and all it picadillos. If I played in that league It would be my luck that the power would go out or charter's hampster has to take a break just as i was about to use my cut bid to win.
  4. I think I conveyed the same thing. The book has problems and it might be over graded but whoever gets it will have a top 10 silver aged book and will have serious bragging rights. I think as a group we tend to be a little negative but we like to speculate and digress about these subjects that in the stream of things make little difference. After all, they are just comics. Ghostown- You have one of the best collections on the planet and deserve respect for what you have accomplished. Thanks for the comments and I hope I have clarified my position.
  5. Fun! Both pages are in very nice condition as well. This post will run up the cost of Sunday comic editions.
  6. I had the snoopy sheets, snoopy doghouse toothbrush holder, and a woodstock on a dog bowl soap dish. From there I graduated to star wars sheets.
  7. For the second or third best book in the the hobby, that is not a bad place to be. God Bless and Happy New Year.
  8. I think your revised logic is fine, but my only criticism would be that it depends on the level of comic knowledge a "buyer" has. The more informed they are, the less likely they are to buy the grade and not the book. However, if you have that much money - does it really even matter... That's the point of my revised logic. The players that play in this pond would want that book even if it is over graded. It is still a heck of a book. That said in any auction, if two are ready to tango, the action begins.
  9. True, we are like that but it is nice to speculate. I had some additional thoughts because I have been thinking like a person that buys 10K books and not 500K books. I would think this would be a top five copy. Confirm or discuss. If that is so, we know the top two are probably locked up for awhile. So that makes this the number one copy available in a pool where there is a ton of money available. It would make a wonderful place holder (using that placeholder loosely) until one of the big two go up or another one appears. If I was one of those guys, the nitpicking we have do would be of no concern to me.
  10. Your points are exactly why it will be hard to figure out what happens in this auction. I would think the money will seem like 9.4 money but what could it have achieved if it had a 9.4 cover.
  11. In fact it'll be in the upcoming signature auction at Heritage. Did you keep your undercopy or did you get it sold?
  12. On the corners I agree. 9.4 grade allows for very minor blunting with no color breaks with no cover wear. I would hate to buy a 9.4 with only one sharp corner. Even at 9.0 I would want very minor foxing and that looks to be more than minor. Last the cover crease by the leg is not allowed in 9.4. You can have a small non color breaking crease on 9.2. If you buy the book and not the label it should be a 9.0 or 9.2 tops. What is the market for that and will that price have gone up so much we won't know where the market is for a real 9.4.
