About Me

  1. I'm looking to fill in some large gaps on an original Wonder Woman #1 (1942), so if you have any pieces for it let me know (be it a wrap or two, or even just a single page. If you have a front/back cover I would be interested in that too). Prepared to be plenty generous, both in cash offers and even trading great books towards them - hard to put a price on it (since it depends on which page or pages, condition etc) but I am assuming to pay a couple hundred each on the low end. Open to any condition, raw or graded. It's a long shot but these boards have led to some oddities I never thought possible, so who knows what will happen
  2. Hi everyone! this sales thread will feature material from various countries related to World War 2 (and the interwar period), comics and other illustrated printed stuff. Some of this material is pretty scarce or rare, some is uncommon, most are duplicates from a research I have been conducting in the last 6-7 years I think a good portion of american collectors may be unfamiliar with a number of these items. IMPORTANT: Each item will have a double price in USD / Euro. If you are paying in Euro via bank transfer I will apply a 5% discount. Payment methods accepted: Paypal, bank transfer (Wise, or other methods). In case I already know you, International Bank transfers are fine. Please no people on the HoS or Probation list. I will combine shipping costs and try to have the less expensive options from Italy. You can find my kudos thread here. Beware: I am based in Italy. Postage costs are pretty high, so check the table below. Rules: The first (icon or text) in thread wins. You can purchase by PM but at your own risk – I will go by time stamp.

Shipping rates: I ship from Italy. Rates indicatively as follows (Zone 1 is Europe and UK, Zone 2 is Americas, Asia and Africa, and Zone 3 Oceania). I am inclined to use Registered, as Airmail does not have a tracking number, but if we’re acquainted and you’re willing to take the risk I can ship via regular Airmail or with a cheaper option which could take more time.
For total amounts of over $300 I will ship to USA through registered courrier for $39. (good up to 1kg, approx 2,2 lbs.), or $45 (up to 2kg, approx 4,4 lbs.). Zone1 Zone2 Zone3 Airmail / 1-2 bks: 11.00 16.00 20.50 USD Airmail / up to 8-10 bks: 13.50 21.00 27.00 USD Airmail / up to 16-20 bks: 21.50 34.50 41.00 USD Registered / 1-2 bks: 17.50 22.60 28.80 USD Registered / up to 8-10 bks: 23.50 32.50 43.00 USD Return policy: I generally do not offer returns as it would be impractical cost-wise from here, but in the unfortunate case I missed something drastic (like a cut out page or ad) I will make sure to make you whole. Thanks for looking!

A comprehensive index of all Golden Age (up to 1945) war-related threads Since I always wished to have all of the most interesting discussions of the Golden Age material as related to World War 2 events (and even those related to events from the interwar period and short after the war) I am creating this thread as an index, to be updated and improved as we go by, of the ones I saved. Please feel free to suggest any thread and/or give suggestion on descriptions and how to organize them at best. 1. General Put up or Shut up! 14. When I find a name on a cover, I try to track them down. I just tracked down the guy, Bruce Lehr, whose name is all over my Cap 36. He said when he was of the age, he and all his buddies would trade comics. He got tired of never getting his back, so he stamped and wrote his name on his books. A lot. He sold his collection 25 years ago to a LCS in Harrisburg, PA. They told him his books were next to worthless due to him putting his name all over his books, and paid him pennies for them. This was 25 years ago, and I think he's still ticked. I didn't have the heart to tell him what I had paid for it. A fellow boardie told me he had tracked down Tommy Thorsen, whose name is written on a number of pre-Robin Tecs. Does anyone else have a story to share? I remember hearing Jon Berk tracked down Larson, of the Larson pedigree. Don't know if that's true or not, but its a cool story.

  19. Brazil is one of the earliest publishers of comics in the world, the earliest published comic in the country is Tico Tico starting in 1905. The Phantom was published in Brazil in 1936 and Superman was published in 1938 making it the earliest NON-US publishing in the entire world. Timely Comics were first published in 1940 once again among the earliest published in Global History and Captain America and Captain Marvel both were published originally in 1943. Historically important among International comic collectors and easily some of these Grails are among the rarest comics in the entire world including the US. 1) Marvel Mystery Comics No.1 (GRAIL) Published by O Globo, Brazil 1940 Easily among the rarest comics in the world and once again published in 1940. The art is Brazilian and by and unknown artist which makes it extremely important and original. In International Editions there is no equal when it comes to rarity and historical importance. We have collected vintage comics for 43yrs and International Comics for over 26yrs. Living in the country of origin for 8yrs this May and having intimate friendships with the oldest living collectors in the country. I have only seen this comic twice and the other was trimmed and altered because it was taken from a volume. Here are a few other Grails and key comics for you to view from our personal collection. Enjoy....

  22. The Dawn of Horror Comics in Brazil was led by incredible publishers such as, Continetal, Outubro, La Selva beginning in 1951. Much of the content original to the country of origin, and created by the some of the greatest artists in our genre's history Globally. Jayme Cortez, and Miguel Penteado considered the Godfathers of Terror in Brazil. These men led the way for other masters such as, Julio Shimamoto, Nico Rosso, Eugénio Colonese etc. Our family has collected International comics for going on 28yrs and have been lucky enough to be able to acquire original published art from all the above and more. It is one thing to have the vintage comic and another to be able to view the original creation up close. Cortez and Penteado both classically trained prior to entering the comic field there works are nothing short of Master Works. I hope you enjoy and thank you to those who share there stories of discovery with our family. Enjoy O Terror Negro #1 Published by La Selva, Brazil 1951
