As someone who is pretty desperate to get his hands on some Mignola art, i'd love to see what our fellow board members have collected whether it be pages, covers, sketches, pencils, inks, watercolor paintings etc. Anything you got, go ahead and toss it in here!! -
Greetings, I've found myself in a collector's niche recently, focusing on Topps Comics. Topps began publishing and distributing comics in the early 1990s, the decade I grew up in, some of my first comics were Topps Comics, specifically issues of the Jurassic Park (1993) adaptation. I've googled Topps Comics a few times and have found some interesting odds and ends in various dollar bins over the last few years. Topps Comics is the epitome on 90s comics, many of them came sealed in polybags with posters or trading cards (Bram Stoker's Dracula), many of their titles were television or movie adaptations (X-Files, Zena: Warrior Princess) and there were also plenty of #0's and foil logo editions. I've also discovered a few other series like Cadillacs and Dinosaurs and various titles from industry legend Jack Kirby. I've also seen a few familiar names on various Topps books like writer Roy Thomas, artists Adam Hughes (Zorro) Gil Kane, Todd McFarlane and Mike Mignola. Post your favourite Mike Mignola art here! I never collected Hellboy so if you can chime in with some that would be appreciated so to speak 😊 Mike Mignola is another of my favourite artists to emerge and rise to prominence in the Copper Age. His art has such a distinctive, spectral style. Alan Moore described it as “Kirby meets German expressionism.” Before he became famous as the owner/creator of Hell Boy he worked on a wide variety of projects. Even when I was a kid back in the 80s though, I would read ‘cold’ artist lists in comic magazines, and Mignola would be on them. Why do you think his art hasn’t had more wide spread popularity? Is it too idiosyncratic? I still collected his books anyway. While this wasn’t a good idea from an investment perspective (fortunately I also loved McFarlane’s stuff ) I still love to read it. Here’s some favourites from my collection below: Maybe if he'd done more Marvel art he'd be more popular. Oh well I guess it makes his work easy to afford. His Batman: Death in the Family covers are probably his most well know work outside of Hellboy. Cosmic Odyssey is such an underrated mini series. Take Starlin, one of the best writers of galactic adventure stories, and combine that with Mignola's striking art and the results are amazing. It could be DCs Infinity War. Sorry. This next one is in rough shape. Can even Superman overcome Death? -
MIKE MIGNOLA: RARE SIGNED LIMITED EDITION PRINT HELLBOY THE LEEDS BLACK PRINCE. One of only 200. Mike Mignola - Hellboy "The Leeds Black Prince" Print. A rare Mike Mignola image, an exclusive print only available through the Travelling Man Store at the 2016 Thought Bubble convention in Leeds, UK. It was based on the statue of the Black Prince which stands in the Leeds City Square. Signed in the lower margin - slight smudge near signature (see photos) from Mignola's own hand. In Excellent condition. I was the Convention Manager for Thought Bubble Convention. Mike Mignola was a guest at the 2016 convention and handed a few of these out to our team. It is signed - unnumbered. 31.5cm width. This print has been stored in a poster tube since I received it, only opened today in order to photograph. Handled very carefully and will be delivered to you by tracked post in a wide poster tube. It's for sale on eBay here I also have two others listed including a TULA LOTAY: Saga (Brian K. Vaughan) Gwendolyn print that was only given to Friends of Thought Bubble. 200 of those printed and none signed. Auctions end Sunday 22nd at 7pm. I'm accepting offers too. -
Martha Washington Needs YOU! In the early 1990s a bunch of comic artists published under the “Legend” imprint contributed artwork to Frank Miller & Dave Gibbons’ “Martha Washington” series. Walter Simonson, Paul Chadwick, Arthur Adams and Mike Mignola each produced a single pin-up image. The original art has recently been unearthed and, inspired by #ComicWritersChallenge , will now be auctioned individually online through BritComicsArt.com for charity. In addition, Dave Gibbons and Frank Miller have each produced a new image for auction. #MarthaArtAuctions proceeds will go directly to Black support organisations in the US and UK, chosen by the artists The first auction will be for Walt Simonson's pin up of Martha Washington and it starts at 9pmUK time/ 1pm PDT on Monday 22nd June and will run for 5 days. Hi - I am open to trading it (not selling) this inked sketch for another Mignola piece not featuring Hellboy (as counter intuitive as that may seem). In particular I’m looking for an inked sketch that has either Rasputin, a wolf, various creatures or a published page that features architecture. I did a post like this a few months ago to test the waters. Figured I’d toss it out there again with some new and different things. Currently looking for: Darwyn Cooke – Anything (sketches, prelims, pages, commissions). Also open to anything J-Bone inked over Cooke’s pencils. Looking for this in particular: Mignola – Anything (sketches, pages etc.). Hellboy art does not need to feature or include Hellboy. Also open to pages with landscapes/towns as the focus, his gentleman skeleton drawings etc. Looking for this in particular: Al Williamson – Sketches, prelims, Flash Gordon stuff. Will look at pages, but that’s not my focus. Please feel free to respond to the thread or PM. I’ve seen all the things available for these artists under the normal channels, CAF, ComicArtTracker, HA, CL, etc. I have some small things I’d be willing to trade or put towards total cost if applicable.
