Today, February 18th, is Nostalgic Investments’ Comic Art NEW ART FRIDAYS! Featured Artists: Liam Sharp Gil Kane Jack Kirby Featured Page: Marvel Two-In-One #1 p15 (First Issue) by Gil Kane With the success of Marvel Team-Up, Marvel wanted to take their second most popular character, the Thing, and team him up with other heroes from the Marvel Universe. In the first issue he meets up with Man-Thing who you see on this page. Pages from number one issues are crazy hot at this time. This title ran for a decade and 100 issues. I was a bigger fan of this title growing up then the team up title, that’s because I loved the Thing so much. I’ve noticed anything associated with this story line goes for exceptional money. Of course that’s because in the last 30 years it’s the most significant storyline for Superman, and one of the most important for all of DC. When you combine Doomsday and the death of Superman that’s a powerful combination. You may be asking how did this car wind up in the sky? Well it was Doomsday hurling it there from the previous page. This page starts the sequence where the inevitable happens and Superman will face off against his most powerful and fearsome antagonist. Greetings! Philippe Labaune Gallery, located in NYC, is thrilled to exhibit *original artwork* by Dave McKean from the making of his graphic novel Black Dog: The Dreams of Paul Nash. Typical in McKean fashion, we are showcasing pages that highlight his diverse style of collage, drawing, and painting. Attached are several examples of work that are available for sale. If interested in any works please let us know. The scans we have of his work truly do no justice!!! We would be happy to send you images of the work as they are installed in the gallery, with detail shots of his fantastic work. Some of these "pages" are big! It is a rare opportunity to see the detail, depth, and variety of materials McKean utilized for this graphic novel, details that are not lost in the reproduction process. Below are several examples of the work currently on exhibition, now until August 14th.-

Ditko Magic Eerie Yearbook 1970 p30 Splash by Steve Ditko Wash pages are usually special in that they add depth and texture to an art page. Having it drawn by Ditko makes it more special. These splashes don’t come around often. If it was two years earlier and Spider-Man, this splash would be selling in the $250,000-$500,000 price range. So this page is clearly a great value. The equivalent Wrightson splash would be two to three times more for even more perspective. It’s a stat cover because the image was taken from FF 39. If the original art to the FF 39 cover ever came to market, it would sell for north of $700,000. Unfortunately, it probably doesn’t exist, so this is the closest that any collector will get to enjoying this historic cover - though you will undoubtedly enjoy the heck out of it once you hang it up.
