Action Comics # 1 CGC 9.0 on Ebay now

That seller drives me insane.gif .

I can't stand this type of stuff "Overstreeet value is $115,000, but you can buy-it-now for $9,500.".

Well SURE! An unrestored NM is not remotely close to what he's selling! It's like saying "A Lamborghini will cost you $200,000 k, but this '88 Escort GT will only cost you $800!"

Would you SH$T if you put $51,000 and it said, "Congratulations, you are the high bidder and the reserve has been met"?

What would be a good price for it? What's OS 9.0 on an unrestored copy? Would 51K be a good deal on the Restored 9.0?

I'd be a bit shocked if I bid 51K and it actually hit the reserve. I would have to somehow get out of it. But if I had the money, does anyone think that's a good price for the A9.0?

Dude, straight up, and I am sure I am going to "ebay hell" for this, but if I were the high bidder and the reserve was met I would retract that bid as quick as I could! smile.gif

The Guide value on a 9.0 unrestored is irrelevant when assessing this book's market value. Carbonaro wanted 75k for that copy recently, so the thrill/joy bidders can get a feel for what they can safely bid without meeting the reserve. Then, of course, Comics Buyers Guide can report that the book reached XXX dollars, but not mention that all (or nearly all) of the bids were phony.

I think it is a 50k book, but not much more than that.

speaking of which -- as you and PedigreeMan bring up, would you consider this auction a bit tainted -- there is reasonable speculation that this reserve is probably set around the $75K range-- so the real buyers should start emerging, if in fact there are any at this price point -- i think goldencomics has a great point here.....

anyone think this thing has a chance of cracking $100K ??

27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif27_laughing.gif. I'm giving you five stars for that Shield!

Also, about that Batman...wonder how many kids actually cut up the comic for that pin-up in the back...And DC was encouraging them! 893whatthe.gif

And the tag-line under Bats - 'yours for bigger and better thrills!'

No wonder Wertham took them as being gay! (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

It's fascinating to watch true GA keys with significant resto go off on eBay. I keep waiting for this to migrate to a broader range of GA books. I only have one restored book (that I know of) among ~5,000 comics, but I can't help but believe that eventually - 5, 10, 20 years from now? - key comics from the '40s and even the '50s with slight-to-moderate and even heavy restoration may well be viewed in a much more forgiving way by the broad collector community.

So, if an AF #15 with similar resto (and in the same grade as the Action 1 - NM- 9.0 - were up for sale, what % of guide would it fetch? I'm guessing maybe 25%. Hopefully this restored Action #1 goes for a higher % of guide.

Oh, and I too think NeatStuff is full of it, generally speaking.
