Special Guests

ED THE SOCK

Ed is a true rag-to-riches story.

Debuting in 1987 on a local cable-access show in Toronto, Ed has steadily ascended from novelty character to become Canada's most-loved and most successful pop culture hero and celebrated wit.

While his merchandise may sell out, Ed hasn't. Among viewers, Ed the Sock has maintained a credibility that is unmatched. Ed's ability to tell it like it is without resorting to shock-jock tactics, his skill at 'keeping it real' with the biggest names in show business and his rare talent at mixing edgy humour with stinging commentary has earned him the respect and love of a nation of TV viewers. Not a bad accomplishment for a TV personality, an incredible accomplishment for a sock puppet.

No wonder the Globe and Mail newspaper listed Ed as one of the 40 most Influential People in Canadian media.

http://www.edthesock.com/

and his beautiful co host

LIANA K

Liana K is the first female co-host in Ed's 21 year history, and she's also the first co-host to match Ed the Sock's legendary lightning wit. Before she started wowing Ed viewers with her wild energy and wit as co-host, Liana guided the show's proceedings offstage as the show's senior producer and co-head writer. However, comics fans may know her better as Power Girl, Ms Marvel or Poison Ivy, since she has a separate fan following for her convention costumes.

Since she could walk, Liana has combined a thirst for education and knowledge with being active as a performer. And her now infamous immersion in geek culture -- comic books, sci-fi, fantasy novels, Dungeons & Dragons, video games -- continues unabated

Liana is now the editor of, and contributor to, the show's spin-off comic, Ed and Red's Comic Strip. She is also developing her own independent project, entitled The Vessel.

SEAN WARD

Sean Ward is an entertainer, writer, producer, director, rapper, artist, cartoonist, and master of ceremonies. A few years ago, his consciousness received an instant message that basically said "Time is ticking by and you've wasted enough of it. You have a lot to do, and it's time to get serious." The very next day he stopped showing up to work and became an Artist full time. He had no money and no education, and his family & friends thought he was crazy.

Sean started out by hand-selling copies of his photocopied mini-comics to passers-by on the street in order to eat & pay the rent. He quickly built an army of fans as he became a staple of Toronto's Queen West strip. Over the next three years his release parties grew into elaborate multi-media presentations featuring comics, music, and a series of semi-autobiographical short films. These events attracted the attention of the producers of Canada's #1 late-night program - Ed & Red's Night Party - for which he currently serves as a writer, associate producer, and performer. Sean also serves as Art Director on Ed and Red's Comic Strip.

Paradise Conventions

is pleased to announce the first ever Canadian appearance of

GLASS HOUSE GRAPHICS

Celebrating its 15th Anniversary this month, Glass House Graphics is a professional service firm and agency that is home to 122 artists, writers, designers, painters, and colorists hailing from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, England, Portugal, the Netherlands, Australia, India, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. Some of the biggest names in comics today including Will Conrad, Mike Deodato, Carlo Pagulayan, Wilson Tortosa and Luke Ross are part of Glass House Graphics

Founded in 1993, Glass House Graphics’ genesis came when its C.E.O. David Campiti was founder and publisher of Innovative Corp. (Innovation Publishing) in 1988. Under his leadership that little company became by 1991 the fourth largest comic book publisher in the United States -- its success built upon adaptations and tie-ins of books, TV shows, and films, helping the company to carve out a unique niche in the marketplace. Among its most successful were adaptations of such Anne Rice novels as Interview with the Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, and The Queen of the Damned. Securing the rights to adapt Rice was a coup that put Innovation on the map. Today Glass House represents 122 authors, artists, inkers, letterers, colorists, and designers. Not all are comic book artists. There are painters, digital artists, animators, web designers and sculptors, novelists, and freelance editors, as well. They are considered a professional service firm with far-reach clients both in the U.S. and abroad -- including Sony Pictures, POW! Entertainment, Hasbro, Harcourt Achieve, Reader's Digest Books, Harper-Collins, Lego Toys, and Random House.

GHG In The Future

Next month's GHG comicbook, graphic novel, and manga book schedule includes 51 projects for Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Dynamite, Dabel Brothers, TokyoPop, FOOM Studios, RealBuzz Studios, Arcana, Harris, and other publishers, plus a sizable load of advertising, animation, sculpting, design, web, and custom work, as well as specialty printing and consulting services.

With the first fifteen years under its belt, Glass House Graphics looks forth to an even brighter future. Having opened its doors last year to a partnership arrangement in India that has brought new art and coloring talent into its fold, guiding force David Campiti has set his sights on expanding further into Europe, with plans to open an office there later this year

Glass House can be seen at www.glasshousegraphics.com, with Studio Sakka at www.studiosakka.com.

UNIVERSAL DESIGNS

David Pea’s abilities as a sculptor, mold maker and fashion designer have taken him in many directions and to different parts of the world. The Toronto native could always see things that others could not when it came to costume design possibilities. While working in Italy’s fashion center with such fashion power houses as Canali, and Versace. Mr. Pea began to see market opportunities and a way to marry his sculpting and mold making abilities with his costume experience. His high-end full body costumes were bold, unique and introduced designs unseen in the industry before. In developing and refining his craft, however, materials available in Italy were limited to leather and other conventional materials that did not satisfy his imagination or vision.

Mr. Pea returned to Canada in the late 1990’s and started Universal Designs in 2001. As his costumes continued to gain notoriety and acclaim, business took off. He received offers to create costumes for films, corporations wanted costumes to assist with promotion of their brands, and much more.
