Using the Grand Comics Database for this purpose is a cute trick.  Unfortunately, it's not quite this simple.    There's a reason why advertisers like Johnson Smith & Co included a Department No. in each of their ads and/or coupons.    Here are back cover scans of Detective #4, 6, 7, 8 plus New Adventure #16 (click to enlarge).  Note the small differences in content and/or color -- but especially Department No.  No two back cover ads are, strictly speaking, identical.
