A question:

Would you rather have seen DK with Dent going out the way he did, or have a movie that was 20 minutes shorter, but set Dent up to be Two-Face for Batman III?

My preference would be to see Two-Face in Batman III. I think Two-Face got a bit shortchanged in this movie. (My two-cents worth.)

HE did get short changed but what a rogue's gallery Bats has to go with. They can churn out movies for the next 20 years and not run out of villains. They've obviously got an angle for #3 already. Can't wait to see what it is.R.

Personally, I think that "Iron Man" and "TDK" are the best 2 superhero movies ever. Which do I prefer? I guess it would depend on my mood and who I am watching the movie with.

my top 5:

spidey 2

dk

spidey

tie b/w x2 and iron man

honorable mention for supes 1 which will always have a special place in my heart.

I might reorder them a little, but you got the right six (counting the honorable mention) (worship)

Actually, Unbreakable should be in there somewhere on a technicality.

Unbreakable was garbage. Let's not soil this thread by mentioning it.

Sean, let's also try a different spin on your question. Consider that these film franchises seem to only have a life span of 3 or 4 movies max. Given that (ie, that there might only be one or two more Batman movies with Bale, Nolan, etc.) wouldn't you rather have them go for the epic we witnessed this summer with both Joker and Two-Face? If Two-Face was movie three, then that might be "it" for the franchise. I'd rather have them do something else anyway. I think we got enough Two-Face in this movie (just my personal preference. There's something great but limited about the character. Maybe it's that we can't fully root against him, unlike the Joker or Ras?)

IMO then they should have made the movie longer and more epic like, rather than editing an epic into a shorter film. 2c

Any word on whether there will be an extended edition for DVD? While I would not have minded a longer movie, I thought the length of the movie was about right to slightly long for the general public.

The Harvey Dent storyline was an integral part of the movie so it was necessary to show his downfall by becoming Two-Face. Could Two-Face have been allowed to slip away? Perhaps, but that would have forced a different ending and likely a different story from the White Knight/Dark Knight story. As mentioned earlier, the use of Two-Face as a character may be somewhat limited in a 3rd movie (big time mob boss? whoopee-doo they're a dime a dozen in Gotham), so this seemed an appropriate close to the character.

I saw the movie a 2nd time, this time on the IMAX screen. It was very impressive when showing the wide landscape scenes, but I found it somewhat distracting when the aspect ratio of the movie kept switching.

Just saw Dark Knight with my 27 year old son and my wife. I had a pre-conceived notion that my wife would not like it too much. I was right. She loved the first Batman movie with Jack Nicholson as Joker. The music in that movie helped it along very well. She also loved X-men 1 and 2. My son thought Dark Knight was "alright" but nothing to write home about. I felt the same. It was okay, but my problem with Batman is that the villians are all really really lame. C'mon. Joker who is just crazy? Riddler? Danny Devito (Penguin), Mr. Freeze. The list goes on and on. Which of them has any abilities, powers or whatever. Even Ra's al Ghul is lame but the least lame of the Batman villians.

Have Batman go up against The Beast or an evil Captain America type character and maybe it will be "even". But the penguin? C'mon. The great and mighty Batman even had one hell of a time with a couple of Rottweillers. Lame. They should have been dispatched with two quick hand or arm movements. He is, after all, The Batman. You know. The guy who took on Superman as a senior citizen and gave him one hell of a fight. Do any of you think that the real person of Bruce Lee would have had a big problem with two Rottweillers? I have two rottweillers and it would not be THAT big of a problem. Especially if I was a battle honed and trained superhero.

The joker could easily be killed by any street cop or street thug.

It's all about talking and storyline in the movies. How about some actual villian abilities? The Joker in the first movei brought down the bat plane with a single shot from a pistol. Give me a break.

Cat Woman maybe, even then, it's a girl with similar abilities. That is not an even fight. She did look really fine though :)

yeah, but that one shot thing was stupid as Joker "abilities" never included being a crack shot, did it? Suddenly this washed up thug gets all crazy after an acid bath and he's a expert marksman? That was a lucky shot which he laughed off, didnt he?

anyway, a supervillain just makes it a superhero movie. This was a crime suspense police thriller plus a rich guy in a cape. My least favorite parts were Bruce Wayne worrying about being Batman and taking himself so seriously.

I am going to disagree with you here. While Batman does have a lot of foes, there aren't too many that would work in the movie format and are very recognizable. TDK with Two-Face and Spiderman 3 with Venom both screwed up by rushing additional villians into the movie then they could have setup great sequels.

Well, Scarecrow is still around...and then you have the usuals...Penguin, Catwoman, Freeze, Riddler, Ra'as...then you have spin offs like Robin, JLA, JSA, crossover villains, Superman/Batman team ups, Miller's DKR storyline, terrorism etc etc. Really the possibilities are endless now that special effects are as good as they are...and they can always just make another Joker movie in a different continuity...or somehow "bring him back"...who knows?

I agree it's a shame that they didn't leave the Joker free but I'm have every confidence then next chunk of movies from DC will be great.

I agree. Thought it was a great idea and they pulled it off nicely. My favorite of his films.
