yeah, thats on my watch list - thanks! Its shocking how hard to find some of those are. I only go looking in spurts, but 310 especially seems impossible. I wish i had a standard cat. so i could check the circulation numbers on those....

Print run for the squarebound US #310 probably dropped to 10k or less at that time. No 1 would preorder them at that price point so they are scarce now. flowerred.gif

thanks odin! I figured it was similar to the "Curse of the #2's" and at that price i bet yopu are dead on, no one ordered them. Sometimes i don't understand people's logic.....the books don't sell well at $7 cover because no one wants to pay it, then 4 years later people are willing to spend $12 to fill in their runs for the same book....???? I had stopped buying new books when the tail end runs on the gladstone books were out so i missed them all, but i have not been making that mistake with the new ones.

holy cripes! I have two 219's and i got one for $2 & one for $4, both last year, and they really ARE NM! thats our chuckie......

One other note on US#310, i bet 70% of those are overseas by now anyway....

OS lists U$ 219 as $25 in NM. $30 or $60 is probably fairly unreasonable considering how many 219s show up on eBay. (Mine is qualified by a gold ink Don Rosa autograph and drawing of Scrooge on the cover. Perhaps I should pick up a "blue label"...)

As for the other Scrooges, I think the print runs near the end of the Gladstone era were closer to 5 or 6 thousand copies each. I was out of comics at the time and finding them now is a [!@#%^&^].

I think the print runs near the end of the Gladstone era were closer to 5 or 6 thousand copies each.

The Standard Catalog has the #309 to #320 issues at 10,555 copies

according to the circulation statements. That would be the average for the 12 issues,

so it's possible there were some in the 5,000 to 6,000 range,

but others from the same year would have needed to be 14,000+ to average out.

Odds are that they're probably all near that 10,555 number.

considering the immense demand overseas, that doesn't leave very many copies. Hey valiant man... could you also check Walt disney comics & stories #609-633 & uncle Scrooge advs. #30-54? Thanks I appreciate the effort!

That estimate of 10,555 is not correct. The standard catalog aggregates the data from that one year. What it doesn't show you is the circulation numbers for the issue closest to the filing date of the statement. If you take a look you will see that the circulation numbers on those squarebounds was sinking like a stone every month. I've looked this up in the past for my own interest.

Here's the scoop from the unaggregated statements (all numbers are gross before samples, spoiled copies etc):

WDCS 607 Circulation statement:

23,601 avg # of copies over past 12 mos

9,569 copies of issue closest to filing date

WDCS 619

8,025 avg # of copies over past 12 mos

7,209 copies of issue closest to filing date

WDCS 631

6,119 avg # of copies over past 12 mos

5,375 copies of issue closest to filing date (WDCS #630)

US 316

20,430 avg # of copies over past 12 mos

6,504 copies of issue closest to filing date (US #315)

Therefore, the GROSS print run of Scrooge 315 was 6,504 before office samples, spoilage etc., and with that number likely sinking fast every issue. I would put the NET press run of US #318 at no more than 5,000 and the NET press run of WDCS 633 at 4-5,000. Luckily I have 8 copies of the one and six of the other thumbsup2.gif

WDCS 633 is a nice one to hang onto as the story, the War of the Wendigo has racial elements (specifically, pygmy indians) and Disney US had it on its 'no reprint' list. So for a while it never saw print in the US until gladstone managed to sneak it into the last issue. I doubt that would have been possible if they hadn't closed up shop. So chances look good that that book, in addition to having Rosa art and being a scarce last issue, will never be reprinted. acclaim.gif US 310, 311, 314, 318 are the rosa issues if I recall with 317 being cover only.

shiver, if you need a 318 I can send you one but I paid a fair bit more than $10 for them so unless you want to up that quite a bit there will be no sale. Not sure what they are going for on eBay and it won't really affect my decision anyway. 893blahblah.gif

Hey Bronty, thanks for the info! I had a feeling they were rarer than 10,000. It seems like almost impossibly low numbers for something with such world wide appeal Prices are still pretty low all things considered. Why not let me know what you want for a 318 & the last issue of WDC&S? Thanks!

Thanks for the deal Matt.
