File Copies

2 posts in this topic

We all know that Signature Series books must be cracked out of their slabs by an authorized CGC witness in order to maintain authenticity.

We also know that Pedigrees can be cracked out by anyone. As long as the label is returned and the distinguishing marks match the grader's notes, the Pedigree status remains intact.

What about file copies? Do they need to be cracked out by an authorized witness to maintain File Copy status or can they be resubmitted with the original label and verified?

In other words, if I have a blue-label Stan Lee file copy, can I crack it out, take it to a show, have a creator sign it (under supervision of a witness), and submit it with the original label for SS status and File Copy status?

Provided the original label was submitted when the book was re-submitted for grading (as Signature Series or otherwise) then we would be able to re-designate the book as a File Copy.
