DC Foreign Language editions

12 posts in this topic

Hi everyone,

I recently picked up a Spanish edition of Sgt. Rock, from the late 1970s. This issue was basd on Sgt. Rock #316, from 1978. It's a smaller format... sort of cross between a regular size comic and a digest.

I had no idea foreign language editions even existed of war books, and I am interested in finding out more about them. Does anyone have any info on DC foreign language editions of the bronze age?

Here's the book. Thanks! Shep

I am all about foreign editions just not DC. I only have one batman where he is an assasin, by Kaluta...I have been searching for Batman 227 by Novaro for two years.... I got mad love for the foreign Marvel keys though.. I search far and wide for them..kinda weird come to think of it...getting Fury and his Howling Commandoes 1 (Low Grade) in Spanish signed by Stan lee..as we speak..

I finally found one in Venezuela, I am hot on the trail, it took more than I care to admitt to find but, I know who's got one...I am so close..I can smell it...hopefully I will convince whoever I must to get it... here is a very small glimse of a personal grail, for me anyways, from 1971:

I have some Swedish Batman and Superman comics. Including my favorite--a Swedish version of Superman vs. Muhammad Ali, in which some of the faces on the cover have been redrawn as notable Swedes!

"First 19 histories of Sergeant Rock, the great classic of the quadrinhos of war, are edited in luxury album G.I. Combat and Our Army At War are the 2 headings of the quadrinhos that had had the privilege to launch in its pages, in the end of years 50, the most emblematic of the heroes of war of the sequential art - Sergeant Rock, of Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, the same pair of creators of another classic of the sort, To the Enemy. Bigger Referencial of the quadrinhos of war, Sergeant Rock never was surpassed, although the innumerable imitations that had appeared in the track of its success. They are in the pioneering adventures of this volume that if finds gênese of the shining personages of the series, as the proper Rock, a subject durão, courageous, solidary to the extremity and absolutely irreducible ahead of the injustice, and the commanded ones of its squad, called Moleza Company ironically. In the series, the all instant, appears new personages who Rock soon deals with `batizar' with funny nicknames, being that several of them never come back to appear. As in the true war, many they die, others leave, conferring a good dose of probability to the workmanship. In years 70, Joe Kubert tried fabulosos and innovative grafismos in the pages of Sergeant Rock. More recently, the series gained one sophisticated graphic novel. However, it is in this volume that we find the work of artists less `badalados', that they had been, however, nowadays basic in forges of a irretocável classic: Sergeant Rock and its Moleza Company."

DISCLAIMER: I own absolutely none of the above, although the OP piqued my interest enough to do a little research.
