Primetime
Great story: I met up with a friend yesterday and he often hits up the local flea markets. Last March, a vendor had a stack of 13 comics laying in a box. In the box were eleven Batman books from the 60s, a VG/F Brave and the Bold #30, and (the prize of the bunch) a copy of Showcase #22. I didn't have a camera, but after flipping through it, I graded it 4.0. He paid a WHOPPING $13.00 for the stack Yep, folks, that's ONE DOLLAR for the Showcase 22!! The BB 30 is about a $300 book I think....what's current FMV on a 4.0 Showcase 22??? PS...on another day, he also picked up a Hulk 181 in GD for a mere 50 cents! showcase22gr1959
That has to be the best price ever paid for a SC22 in 2010. If it get graded as a 4.0 $1700-2000 and that is incredible for $1. I bet you got deals like that too. showcase22gr1959
Happy New Year to everyone. Here are some fun analysis from your die-hard SC22 fan. It has been a considerable year for Showcase 22. Two new high grades copies of SC22 surfaced, a 7.5 ow and a 8.0 ow "Savannah". In 2010, SC22 has gained and average of 15% across the border, but less parabolic than 2009 whopping 225% gain. 2010 started in a down trend but eventually found support in the 2nd quarter. There were a lot of record prices in 2010. Some of the record sales per grade were a 7.5 ow/ow for $12995, 6.5 cm/ow $7050, 5.5 ow $4481, 5.0 ow 3107, 4.5 lt/tn $2195. Other highlight sales were a 7.5 for $12369 and a 6.5 ow for $6500. Also, in 2010 SC22 has taken over Brave and the Bold 28 as the second most valuable DC Silver Age comic. It is still trailing Showcase 4, but it will be interesting to see how this will play out in 2011 and beyond. In the CGC census numbers, SC22 supply still remains scarce compare to Silver Age Marvel Keys. There is a strong support for SC22 and these are the key levels to watch for: $1100 for 4.0 and $2200 for 5.0, and $4000 for 6.0. If prices fall back to these area, it will be a buying opportunity. 2011 looks bright for SC22. The Green Lantern movie is in theaters in mid-July starring Ryan Reynolds and an animated GL cartoon on the horizon two months after. I see 2011 to be a very volatile, prices dictated by supply and demand, and if the Green Lantern movie will be a success or not. Good luck everyone! KryptoSpidey
Well at the lower end, with 3.0's selling $1200-1400 i sure hope 4.0 doesn't ever see $1100 again from a seller stand point.I'd imaging a 2.5 is about a $900-$1000 book now.

I'm sure lots of people want to see $1100 for 4.0 to add a copy. For a seller or a collector if it reaches there , but there is going to be heavy buying if it happens. The supply of graded copies in the open market are so scarce right now, your copy should sell quickly if price right. Maybe hold out a bit longer till 2nd quarter of 2011 and see where the prices might go . It will be interesting to see how your 22 grades out. Bomber-Bob
Thanks Bob, so CGC doesn't make them official until when they ship them out. Night, yup...I have had a few grades that changed and a few "can't slab them because of the overhang cover" not a lot but things can change and hopefully for the better. Most of the time it was for the better for me (thumbs u Yes, you are right about the "can't slab because of overhang" . It always happened on some of my better books, never on a PLOD () ! I heard they are better about that now and it hasn't happened to me for a few years.

With the emergence of the 9.6 I doubt that a 9.4 SC #4 would come anywhere close to its high price now. B&B #28 is a great book, and it will be interesting to see if/when it finally takes its big jump. Right now, though, a 9.4 SC #22 would likely top it, but in 2 years it might be a different story. FWIW, I expect SC #22 to eventually end up as #1 if the GL movie franchise does well. Edited January 1, 2011 by kimik

It's been updated now if you look back a page. Actually, your SC22 6.5 was listed as one of the record sale in my SC22 analysis. I did not snip for my 7.5 and I should have not have logged in the boards that day and I would have end up paying less. For a matter of fact, if I have seen the 7.5 in hand, I would have bid another 20% more. Edited January 2, 2011 by showcase22gr1959

From a price and grade point, a SC22 in 8.0-9.0 will fetch more then a SC4 or BB28 in similar grades.
sufunk
Man! I'm just kidding around with you showcase I didn't mean you actually used snipe, just that I lost out in the last few seconds. If it makes you feel any better, I was bidding on that book regardless of wether we talked that day or not. Our talk MAYBE bumped my bid like $250 and probably not even that since i routinely increase my "max" bid when i see it isn't enough. I get the feeling it's time for me to take a break from this thread so Happy hunting guys!
showcase22gr1959
I know posting on the thread can be critical and judgmental because no body knows everything. One may know more on certain topic, has better comics, but it doesn't mean the person is a better living person. Everyone has there neat personality and traits and that's what make it fun and social. I have learned a lot and enjoyed reading your posts and seeing yours and everyone's cool books.
