Ogami's Shadow Gallery!

You cannot avoid the interplay of politics within an orthodox religion. This power struggle permeates the training, educating and disciplining of the orthodox community. Because of this pressure, the leaders of such a community inevitably must face that ultimate internal question: to succumb to complete opportunism as the price of maintaining their rule, or risk sacrificing themselves for the sake of the orthodox ethic.

I was just a little kid the first time I read Dune.

Had a huge impact on me.

I was 14 & have at least one memory of where I was when reading it one day.

I can't recall if I saw the movie before or after reading the book. I watched a large portion of the 2000 Dune & enjoyed it well enough.

With under two hours left to go on the audible.com version, this is my first time revisiting the novel. I've never read the other books but will now.

Dune has always haunted me, both from my childhood reading & from my appreciation for the Lynch masterpiece. I'm under its spell.

It's very easy to fall under it's charm. Dune is a wonderful phylactery of allegorical references to history, government, religion, war and human social evolution. There is also the Fremen/Arab connection that continues to amaze me in light of recent events.

I first read this book in the confines of a camper shell covering the bed of a Ford truck pulling a little Aristocrat trailer from one end of the country to the other when I was around 10 - something that happened quite frequently in my family. It was hot, noisy and uncomfortable; but I was lost in the story.

The truest and best adaptation of the book is "Frank Herbert's Dune" with William Hurt. I highly recommend this mini-series if you haven't seen it.

Herbert uses the words jihad, Ramadan, & hajj so many times the point becomes a sharp one.

I assume Herbert was greatly influenced by T.E. Lawrence. The plight of the Fremen has the noble romanticism of that era.

But then I often wonder if the spice, with it's addictive and visionary properties, is a reference to the Muslim dependence on the Koran. It's not hard to imagine blue-eyed terrorists, walking out of synch with the rest of humanity in their own reality.

Guys I need to give a shout out to a few people here. First to my brother Ogami, me and him been bros over 20 years. My heart is with you right now. He's been on these boards alot for awhile. He's been telling me to get my butt here, well I'm here. I've been on a SS kick lately and really wanted Bernie Wrightson on a few books. He was at Texas Frightmare Weekend. I thought I may have been too late cause I didn't hear from thecollector who was taking subs. Ogami put me in touch with seanfingh who was able to put me in touch thecollector. That series of phone calls was amazing. Thanks to all I was able to get my books signed and even learned a few tricks. Thanks Guys

Guys, I would like you to welcome to the boards, and to the SG, my oldest, dearest friend. He is one of two guys I literally call a brother. He's new to SS books but not to sigs with many many years of auto hounding in him. In fact, he's second generation auto hound.

Call him Jay. All the hookers do.

I took so many pictures that I got lost in the fray of flash. Truly over whelming in terms of figurines, battle games and soft porn.

Still, I worry about the manifestation taking place in the youth and its depiction and view of girls, not women, in this case.

I tended to spend more time on the Godzilla / Ultra-man / Gundham type stuff.

I went there to see and attempt to understand. I like Japan most of all the Asian places I have been. I worry for it and watch with hope but realize under current trends, its population is on a downward trend.

America is only behind Japan's decline in a matter of degrees and in time.
