burntboy
Wonky Green? Wow, that's a new one to me. There are differences in the upper left corner of the books based on where in the print run the book was. If we were chatting about the book I refer to it as the color strike. Starts out deep rich green and fades along the way. There are also different variances in color of Silver Surfer #2's that go from very deep rich purple to lighter. This is not because of being exposed or fading. The Dark green versions of X-Men #1's are generally more desireable from a eye appeal standpoint. Well, I prefer the less brassy soft green hue, personally...like the Pac Coast 9.6...

USArmyParatrooper
Hello all, I'm currently looking for an X-Men 1 somewhere in the 3.5 - 4.0 range. What I'm looking for is OW or better pages, vibrant (as possible) colors and the lack of chipping. But in grades I'm looking for I'm wondering how realistic my expectations should be. Would you say this is average, or above average for the grade? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Uncanny-X-Men-1-Vol-1-CGC-3-5-/270863511273?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item3f10b92ee9#ht_2254wt_941 The colors seem a bit faded, but really no worse than what's typical for the grade. There is no outright chipping, but it looks like there's a small bit of pre-chipping. There is heavy wear on all four corners, and I'm not sure what to make of that charcoal looking stain on the mid-spine area. Do the staples look rusted to you? Looks like a pretty solid 4.0 - no chipping, just pre. Not sure what the smudges are, and I don't see any rust migration. I like the centering here - I haven't seen many copies with that much of the M in Magneto showing...

ChasingKingKirby
I just called and checked the notes on it. Rusty staples I ended up buying this copy. The staples are mildly oxidized but definitely not what I'd call "rusty" and I can see no sign of any sort of transference. It was slabbed almost 12-years ago. I'm guessing they were more strict on their definitions back then? Definitely looks like it would get both a grade and PQ bump on a straight resub. Maybe a bit better with a dry-clean and press. Regardless, I'm back in the club. Edited March 14, 2012 by MLMeade
