Where are the Mad Magazine collectors?

The thread may have been started 12 years ago, but it's more active than that.  I'm not a MAD expert, but I would expect a lot of those early issues are worth some pretty serious $$$, depending on condition.  From what I can see in the pics, they don't appear to be particularly high-grade, but even G/VG copies of a lot of the early issues are worth several hundred bucks, as I understand it.

That’s a great collection he left you there!  From what I can see, if there is no hidden damage, a value of at least $4k. I don’t know what kind of information you’re seeking, but I have a fair bit of knowledge about these.

Been 12 years since anyone posted in this thread but I'm seeking info on the mad magazine collection my grandpa left behind for me. Any info or value maybe even ideas of what to do with them, I'd appreciate. Issues no.1 - no.45 plus dozens more out of order or later publish date

It will be a cold day before I argue with @Stevemmgon magazine value.  It looks like the run is in decent shape but not particularly high grade. I hope others have better suggestions on what to do with them; we might have better suggestions with better photos.

A very fun inheritance! A nice run of some classics as well. Stand outs would be #1, #5, #24 (first magazine issue) and #30 (first full cover appearance of Alfred E Neuman). Without seeing them up close, I would expect conditions of good to very good if complete.

In general, they are all fairly available. MAD is a generation thing. Not as popular as they used to be. That being said, they still have some decent value. eBay would’ve s good place to start. Do not get “Star eyed” at big prices though. Those would be high grade or CGC graded ones. I would also suggest the Overstreet comic book price guide would help but it might be a little high. Knock maybe 40% off those prices maybe 50% on the less popular issues.

Hope this helps.

I don't even have an unsigned copy of that one... but I have some of the issues showing on the cover.  Welcome to the boards!

Hope this hasn't been posted already.

Well produced video on all the artists of Mad.

Thanks, that was interesting, especially the intersection of MAD history and my own interest in Warren comics and artists, most of which I am still learning about.

Went to our local Scottsdale show this weekend and was discouraged by all the prices for comics I wanted.  However, a dealer had these high grade early Mads, and made me a deal I couldn't refuse to upgrade my issues that I've had for years. These are unbelievably beautiful, at least, compared to my copies.   It was a good day...
