Got this classic flip cover issue of MAD in today.  First Spy vs. Spy:

I have two boxes of Mad and Cracked. Close to 200 mags. Don't know where to start to move them. It seems like taking 20 pictures and throwing them up on eBay is probably the best way to go. Anyone have any experience liquidating large lots of these?

Lots are probably the best way to go.   Most MAD's past about issue 40 really aren't worth that much unless they're super high grade.

Do what I did...I sent a PM to OtherEric and he bought a bunch.    Of course, I didn't try to charge anywhere close to guide value...

This is the 2nd group of upgrades I bought after Thanksgiving from a dealer in AZ...some of the later issues have dust shadows.  I don't like it, but I can live with it.

The best way to find out is to check ebay for each issue and then scroll down the left side of issues avaiable and find the sold box.  Click it and see what they sold for in the recent past.  I checked #224 and it seems (depending on condition) that it has been selling for roughly $6 to $9 including shipping.  That seems like a lot to me because I pay far less when I find an 80s or 90s issue I need for my run.

In today.  The #137 is a bit outside my current target zone, but once I figured out it has Wolverton art I had to snag it.

A recent two item pick up from Heritage - first is a sealed copy of the Ridiculously Expensive Mad

Second is the same book, but with a tattered cover and a surprise inside.

Al Jaffee's personal copy - and this was on the end page (which was not shown in the auction listing )

That second copy is gold! Does it include all the inserts, attached or unattached, and the errata/instructions for the Mobile?

I always wonder who 'sealed' those copies that one sees for sale these days. When I was haunting B. Dalton Bookseller back in 1969 I never saw a sealed copy of the book! I spent many hours trying to figure out a way to extract $9.95 from my loved ones for such a 'funnybook' as I sat in the store nursing whatever copy was at hand, on my various visits!!!

. Does anybody wonder why there is never a price sticker found on the wrap? I've never seen one, and the price is on the flap of the dust jacket. My theory is that W. M. Gaines had somebody wrap copies he stowed away in his vault! Also, shrinkwrapping is easy to do these days! I know records were shrinkwrapped in 1969, but I never saw a book that way until many years later!!!......thus those copies always remain mysterious to me....and I am obsessed with REM!

 

I have 11 copies but here are my best looking, and complete, 6!!!!  I include a pic of the Andy Warhol Index Book as it is the closest kind of book I can think of from the era, that also contains a bunch of gimmicks, and one can see how it was displayed on a shelf.....in a plastic bag, not shrinkwrapped, with a price sticker!!!! Yes.....I'm insane about these books.....I love inserts and bonuses in my reading materials!!!!!

That is Awsome and a rare find indeed! That is easily the hardest of the MAD hardcovers. Especially with intact inserts. Congrats!
