This was an unusual request for a commission:

Sophia_Tomato.jpg.6122c755a7cbfaddba7513458e5d02a8.jpg

Ever since I first tried Sophia Loren's recipe for tomato sauce from her first cookbook In Cucina Con Amore,1971 (Eat With Me, english pocket edition from 1980) I have stuck to it like gospel. And since the description is not written like a regular recipe but more like Ms Loren describing the process in conversation, I was thinking maybe this could be made into a comics page with six or eight panels to illustrate Ms Loren telling it to the reader while showing hands on how it is done. (Nigella, eat your heart out!)

Bill Galvan kindly obliged (but confessed it was kind of hard to break the recipe down into singular panels and deciding what to show) and this is the result of his efforts. Looks like a Sunday comics page (down to the coloring). I can easily see this as a syndicated strip since there are lots of recipes written in the same way in this book. And I dare everyone to try the recipe, it makes a delicious tomato sauce!

Click on the picture to see larger scans of both the finished pencils and the colored print-out in my CAF-gallery. That way the instructions can actually be read!

It would be great if you could somehow get this in front of Sophia herself... I bet she'd get an enormous kick out of it.  It's also a unique way to present a cookbook, although I guess I'm not sure who would be the target audience. Nonetheless, always great when the commission scratches the exact itch you had in mind! Congrats!!!

Thanks.  I told Renee other collectors would not be as forgiving as I was if they received a commissioned piece in this condition.

It does suck that the piece arrived with this gigantic crease and I am disappointed but I’m hoping that when I get around to framing this piece, my framer will be able to minimize the crease or possible even eliminate it.

a heat press could take that crease out.

haven't been much of a commission guy, but this year I decided to scratch an itch I had to get some work from artists I love (and whose OA is HARD to get).

One piece I commissioned was this killer Batman & Robin from Lee Bermejo. I asked Lee to put his spin on the classic Carmine Infantino image of the Dynamic Duo on a rooftop, patrolling Gotham.

I think he absolutely nailed it -- especially Robin! Can't wait to get this framed.

I picked up this piece from Romeo Tanghal recently. Looks familiar.... I love the colors on mine, and I really like the detail on yours.

Sub-mariner 6 Recreation by Esad Ribic

Art was done July 27/2021 at Anthony’s Comicbook Art shop (in house) in New Jersey. It was a special event where Esad flew in to catch up on commissions that were delayed due to Covid and his obligations at Marvel doing the Eternals comics . I’m very happy with the result .

The only direction I gave was it had to be identifiable as Subby 6 cover and I wanted his take on it ( modern version ) so the scene to take place underwater . He did a great job . One of my fav artists out there .

His schedule gets tight with work he has to do with Marvel and limited cons. I ordered this last September so it’s been a long wait . He does his absolute best to hook fans up. He will honour any commissions he takes on but there was no set time to receive them . If you’re cool with that it’s worth the wait imo. I need one more to finish my silver age Namor trilogy ….

Wow, that's special.

11x17 or is it larger?

14” x 20” approx

I measured my framed Ribic Doom & Namor piece it’s 13.5” x 19” that’s because the framing hid a little of paper edge . I believe the single figure commission is slightly smaller than two character but don’t quote me on that

I got in a few items in today.  First I got in an 8” x 10” Baroness commission by Sorah Suhng:

Then I received this 11” x 17” Baroness and Vega sketch by Karl Janot as a “thank you” for my patience:

Patience for waiting for my latest 11” x 17” cover homage commission of Thor #359 featuring Vega and The Baroness:
