Where'd the 10k for this book come from???

I dont see anywhere that he said he paid 10k. Am i missing something here (shrug)

Do a completed items search on eBay for cheapcharlie118 as the high bidder. Looks to me as if the seller had it listed at $12k, and the OP made an offer that was accepted at $10k on September 12, 2011

Completed eBay listing

:news: Looks like the OP may have backed out! Shocking! :whatthe: Book is now relisted on eBay with an asking price of $15k:

Seller will get negged for not including the words "Not Worth $10K" in his auction.

Well, to be fair, the seller didnt title his auction "RUSTED out X-men 1". He only included a large picture of the rusted out staples clearly trying to hide them and screw over some buyer.

I'm sure the silent majority is on rthedas side on this one as well :makepoint:

just so everyone knows, I'm not even reading any responses to my argument. Everything has been stated that there is to state and Ebay found in my favor. Again, I'm not convincing you and you are not convincing me, so its over. Please get a life and move on to enjoying comics. Peace

Seriously, what you need to be convinced of is that you need more education on grading and defects. First the ASM 1 and now the X-MEN 1. You seem to be buying on impulse with an eye to profit simply because they are key books. The existence of rusty staples is very apparant in the back photo of the X-MEN 1. But you need to know how to see and that requires experience.

You have to understand these books are expensive but are NOT RARE. They are actually fairly common. They represent perfectly that the DEMAND is the key part of "Supply and Demand". They are in good supply but there is very high demand.

Because they are in good supply you should have no problem finding a satisfactory condition copy at a proper price.

You are probably better off getting CGCd books. Yes, they will cost more but you will know what you are getting as long as you fully read and understand the label and also appreciate the place of miswraps, miscuts, page quality etc. in CGC grading vs desirability.

There are some superb dealers, many on the boards, but at this juncture I am not sure how many would want to sell to you. Just these two purchases have seriously undermined your reputation. Not necessarily that you are evil, but that your understanding of grades and impacts to condition/value is very lacking. That combined with your refusal to admit any responsibility on your part spells "trouble buyer" to many dealers, and justifiably so.

You really have to start educating yourself. These forums are a great place to do that. But you need to meet it halfway.

I dont think they will change their opinion and I am not changing mine, so there is no real point in continuing the conversation. I just think they are wrong. And I do believe I have the support of the silent majority of people who dont post here and have been sold spoon by an unscrupulous dealer.

Here's what the silent majority of people had to say.

:roflmao:

But really, who buys a $15K or even a $5K book without it being professionally graded?

You could point to a few national dealers you may trust buying that kind of book from, but the problem with that is they are all smart enough to get it graded first also, so that rare case just would not happen.

Sure I will take a chance on buying a low grade key (nice to hold in your hand and actually open/read) as long the seller has great feedback. It should at least be complete and will probably be a good deal, but why take a chance on a very expensive high grade or even mid grade key book not having issues like that undisclosed rusted staple (or worse) etc?

(shrug)

I just messaged the seller through eBay and asked him whether the staples were rusted ... here's his reply:

they are fine just a little dark.

The buyer is a fool for not doing his homework before plonking down $10k on a comic book and for not looking at the scans where the rusted staples are pretty clear.

But, in contrast with the ASM brittle pages fiasco, it does seem like the seller is trying to scam people here.

If he told you that, the seller is either retarded or a scammer. He did at least use pics that show the rust pretty clearly. You'd have to know next to nothing about comics not tomb able to

See them and know the effect it would have on the books grade.

I just wasted 45 minutes reading all these posts and the other thread on ASM #1. I don't want to be a SILENT partner so.... Why did you bid on a graded comic that has the LABEL in the enlarged pics clearly visible then say the seller was shady?? lol! You have no defense!!

Is it true the longest three years of your life was your FRESHMAN year?

You are a negligent buyer! Admit you're wrong and ask for forgiveness.

I did the same, spent 30 mins reading this post. Wasted 30 mins of my life.

This buyer wanted to buy the comic which he thought was a good gamble and flip it for a higher grade or to keep then flip. If he came to the board and was told that it was a good buy he would go ahead with the deal.

Now the opposite has happened and he wants to back out.

My verdict, he is a total selfish person. He wants to use the experience of the knowledgeble buyers/sellers on this board to make money for him. I'm not surprised if he keeps asking for additional help for other comics which he can buy to flip.

If you want a gamble go to casino and put your money on red and when black comes in, cry to casino about your money.

No sympathy whatsoever, he is NOT interested in putting in the work to learn about comic grading or about the hobby, This guy is just taking advantage of the buyers protection policy on paypal. I feel sorry for the seller.

Hope you stop collecting comics soon,

Wong
