Here are the recent sales for NM 98 - as I mentioned, it's right around $1,500 on average for a 9.8 copy, of which there are 4,000+ on the census:

There are 34 listings for Batman 655 in a 9.8 on eBay - some of those are for the variant, some are for lots, etc. That book has been selling 2-3 copies a day since the news came out, hovering around the $340-350 mark. 2 weeks ago you could get a copy for $130 if you were patient. So it's already more than doubled, and that's just on the news of a movie.

There are 108 listings for NM 98 in a 9.8 - some of those are for the facsimile, some are for lots. Here's an auction with 24 bids, currently at $1,325 with a day and a half left to go: https://www.ebay.com/itm/403958415665

Here's another with 18 bids, currently at $1,125 with 6 and a half days left: https://www.ebay.com/itm/155390251003

Census count has next to nothing to do with it.

Wouldn't a better comparison be Batman 655 vs 656 vs 657? The demand for deadpool is way higher.

I made the original comparison to New Mutants 98 because the person who posted said that Batman 655 would never increase in value because it has too high of a census count in a 9.8. I was using NM 98 to illustrate that a book with a massive 9.8 census count can still increase in value based on the demand vs. supply. It's not meant to be a "book vs. book" debate, but rather a supply vs demand example - to say a book would never increase in value simply because it has 950 graded 9.8 copies on the census is silly.

The overabundance of supply will tell. Ms. Marvel #1 and She-Hulk #1 are more examples on the way down. For a collector, sure. Investment, no.

More about hype fading a bit due to fanboys being less interested. NM 98 is still somewhere because for some folks it is their grail. MM 1 and SH 1 aren't gonna be anyone's grail.

NM 98 is coppers Star Wars 1. Plenty of copies but high demand.

Uh...Star Wars 1?!? What about something like Hulk 181 (although the better comparison to that is probably ASM 300)? Actually, maybe ASM 129 is a similar book.

Auction should have closed 2 days earlier might have made $400 instead of $315

Yep, I think current price for this is around $300, until we get more details about the show.  Unfortunately, I overpaid due to FOMO.  Always liked Damian and kicked myself for not having these before the announcement.  Talked myself into snagging a 655 9.8 "while it was still cheap".:makepoint:

let’s get this thread back onto modern drek that becomes $20+ overnight

Yeah, I need some $1 bin comics to snag before they hit $20, to cut my losses on the Bats 655.

Who will really care about Booster Gold #1 pre movie/streaming appearance?

People might if there was a solid gold variant, that was delivered to your house via armoured car.

I own a metal version of XO Manowar #1, so it isn't outside the realms of possibility...

It’s more of a copper than a modern..

They tried the same shtick over in the Copper Age forum, but there were too many Booster Gold fans there for it to work, so it migrated here.

If a talking racoon and a monosyllabic tree can reach the heights of pop culture stardom, so can a morally dubious time traveler with a robot sidekick.

Yes I can see all the kids caring about Booster not really.  A talking raccon and a talking tree are at least more interesting. Gunn will make it
work I am sure, but man is this one a stretch.

I like Booster. I was just re-reading DC's 52, and I like what they did with Booster in that run.

Told you.

Just playing around... I told the Booster naysayers that there are a lot of Booster fans out there.

Ha, got it - I don't care, I'm an unabashed Booster fan. If anyone can encapsulate him, it's gonna be Gunn. But I really do like the potential with the Infinite Earths/Multiverse possibilities.
