It was not clear, to me at least, that anyone had survived to crawl inside and restart the oxygen pump. Then the next scene finds John Carter awakening back on Earth. This reminds me of dream's where one is about to perish. One will awake with a start if falling from a height, rather than dreaming right on through to impact.
