If you charge a fee, it's not going to prevent fruitcakes...it's just going to limit the fruitcakes to ones with money.

Having money does not make you sane.

A fee would SEVERELY limit the number of members.

For those of you who like to sell books, make sure you no longer want to sell inexpensive books, because you will limit your audience.

I doubt there are many people who can afford the $700 and would still buy inexpensive books. I can think of a few, including myself, but I don't think that's the norm.

For those of you who like to BUY books and pick up bargains...remember you won't have as many people who need to sell (because they are broke) or people who are new selling treasures...probably not people who decide to sell their lower grade collections.

There are a lot of generous people on here, who donate to charitable causes, who would never be able to plunk down $700. People who have families, young kids, people who contribute sane positive things.

So, in essence, be careful what you wish for;)

I like being here, but I can't imagine ever paying for the privilege. Further, you're already paying for it by driving traffic to the site. You're monetizing the site in that CGC can charge for the banner ads. Not to mention, the benefit they get from developing a loyal customer base.

Those who cannot afford to be on "the up and up" might need to re-think about finding another hobby. For those of us who actually run a small business, the paid membership would work. The transactions conducted here are less than one percent of my transactions, and I would find it hard to believe that anyone could conduct serious business on the Seller's Thread.

Many here keep trying to find "excuses" as why the paid membership would not work. Speaking for myself at the moment, I did say before something like the $700.00 per year membership fee would work, because I would be willing to pay that $700 to keep my name from getting tarnished time and time again. Small price to pay for some peace of mind.

I keep repeating this again and again, but those who do NOT contribute positively, only troll, flame, etc., don't and won't nor WOULD have anything of value for this Forum, except to harm , I guess, your "competition". The "your enemy is now my good friend" concept.

"Not*Sure" with her " Newbies might want to join but can't:. There would be a place for newbies to email the Moderator(s), and take it from there. Like the Director's Guild of America. You MUST be a member to log on, get the Free Screenings, etc. Dues? Their chat board does NOT TOLERATE what we see here on a daily basis. Oh, their Board is VOLUNTEERS, and they are lined up to be a part of that.

Sky's " be careful what you wish for": I'm gambling. I want the paid membership. Real bad. I am in the process of weeding out those 30,000 PM's over 11 years, and I am shocked at the numbers of those who no longer post here. Can you blame them? If the top brass at the Collector's society ever saw what goes done here I guarantee my entire net worth something would be done. So far they have gotten, in my analogy, a "free pass" as to escape serious trouble. Said luck is going to run out.

Serious question ( I promise I won't do it again)

Why do you not go start your own message board? Charge whatever you want. Make up whatever rules you want. Do whatever you want.

Then you don't have to deal with people you don't want to deal with and vice versa.

Seems easy peasy to me.

Fine Cal. I'll play.

This chatboard is a giant advertisement for CGC.

It works just fine for them.

The amount of people that don't use CGC because of these chatboards is miniscule. You have tried to play this trump card many times and have only came up with one person. One. And it is not even you. lol

Your major contribution to these boards consists of complaining about your harrasment here but you continue to use CGC all the time. Being a "businessman", please explain why CGC would change anything about these boards?

If at some point these boards become a detriment to CGC's business, they will disappear. This won't become a paid site. It will cease to exist.

When Fezzik put the $25.00 per month on the Sports betting site, for some reason, NO Trolls signed up. Have not seen a negative post of any kind in over two years. True camaraderie and true friendship there. NO resentment of those who score big, just pure encouragement. eBay? Comics Corral? CGC?

CAL who has the habit of telling it like it is...

I'm goink to break with you other azzhats, and declare that this is a really good idea. It would clear out the alleybats and other creeps here, and really quick - if they have to provide valid credit card info to populate their latest shill profiles, they wouldn't do it. I wouldn't go $25 a month, but maybe $25 at registration, or maybe per year.

Good idea, Cal

Cal wanted to charge $700 for entry, though :gossip:

I don't think it's a bad idea either (not the $700 part).

I haven't really considered the long term effect on a small charge to join but just alone having a CC to register would create a paper trail for any illicit dealings.

It would definitely weed out a lot of chatter and from the User List.

Look,

I appreciate the registry. If anything it serves a a showroom for fellow collectors to display their collections and interests. I often browse through registry sets that I don't even associate with... simply to appreciate what others have collected, and sometimes even learn a thing or two.

The Marvel Silver Age set that you pollute is in my opinion one of the best sets out there. I have said this before, I'd be the first to glance at your best copies but when more than 50% of the set is made up of multiple copies of the same book that you have registered.... :frustrated:

Register your best copy (I welcome it) and perhaps even your undercopy ... but for crying out loud, is there really a need to register dozens of copies of the same book !!???
