No wonder our CGC prices go up--they have to hire an army of admins to manage this "free" service.

Hmm... there WAS someone here who had THE ANSWER to all things negative here on this Forum...

You are partially correct. After 5 years of dragging me through the mud on a different Chat room, he had the NERVE to offer his professional services, market rate of course.

I strung this out as long as I could, and eventually told him in my then-manner where he could set his "services".

I was hoping that you would totally ignore me and not respond to any of my posts, and if you could not exercise self-restraint to respond to my posts, was hoping that you could help the Forum out. Obviously we are NEVER going to see eye to eye on most topics, but that should not stop anyone who wishes to continue here put forth better efforts.

The above was my nicer way of saying something to the effect: Until next time

ta ta!

Uhmm I was only acknowledging your prior posts..I mean you would like your own kingdom of Caltopia..right?? I could swear you said that before and something along the lines of charging for it people to use the chat board..

no need to wad any panties

I did not disparage yourself in anyway..I was merely pointing out if you wanted you could still..

But yes he does charge market rate..as do most professional dudes that do that sort of thing.

but he would do a bang up job he is awesome at that sort of thing..

plus he wears a cool shirt how could you not like someone with a Dr Doom Tee as his sig. look.. it's awesome

No. What I proposed was to set up a dues-type of Membership for THIS Forum.

In passing I have always tinkered with the idea of setting up my own Boards, etc.

I am glad you cleared this up and I believe you when you when you say that you were not disparaging me.

I am sure he could do a great job, btw.

But while we are on somewhat speaking terms, let me propose the same scenario to you if I may:

How would YOU feel if someone who obviously has a serious disdain for your entire existence all of a sudden try to "work" for you? Could you truly trust someone like that? How would I know that he is not "sabotaging" my own Chat Room? Now that nice lady who had that "sparkle" theme, I almost hired her, but she disappeared...

Serious Q, but I understand if there is no reply...

CAL not in the buzzsaw mode he used to be in( for now)...

Oh I know you suggested it for THIS forum but to be honest I think it being open does encourage some newbies that are worth having..I mean everynow and then someone who is honestly seeking comic book related knowledge and has something interesting to say comes along..a lot of the "tool" newbies are shills anyway.

shutting out new folks who could be adding to the hobby is the last thing they would want to do..imagine a person with little to no comic knowledge like I was when I started seriously collecting..buying $600 books and reading them ..keeping them in my desk at work etc..and then finding out there are places that sell special bags and boards and within two years of rediscovering comics..opening my own stall..then having all those freaking sweet books I had..even then I was like buying incredible books at pennies (or getting people to give them to me for free) and giving away thousands of dollars in books to my peeps because I had no idea really just knew what I liked..I had nearly quarter million books by 1998 or so and had barely any money in them they were like water pouring into the shop..and I had only scant knowledge and a stupid magazine with ridiculous prices in it to guide me..

That other chat board taught me loads of stuff I never would have known from pricing ,grading, detecting resto, page counts etc etc..people like Catrick,TT, and Don etc..and of course the most neato person there..my..in home book grader..and packaging guru..

Some people who come here seriously need the knowledge like that..and it is useful for outing Ebadguys..

Every person who gets interested, starts a collection no matter the size or genre, and then tells their friends, spouse, kids, etc..is better for all of us.

putting a price barrier in front of them would discourage them..and we want them encouraged.

I know we basically do not agree on a few things..but I am not evil(okay okay but I only use my evil powers for good really) ..I just happen to be fond of a few people you are not..and well things happen

sparkleperson?? I don't know who that would be obviously I do not have you on ignore..you could PM me who you mean by..sparkle??

Oh Dr.Doom T (I do not know if he would care to have his name said here) he is not like that..he is a very stand up guy..

If he offered you his professional services..he would be professional..that is just how he is..I am not completely sure he still does that sort of thing except for the neg finder dealio..which I think is on autopilot except when he has to tweak it...but now I think he is playing music a lot and busy with that..(he is a musician you know?)

oh look. cal's making an issue that's got nothing to do with him about him.

Good. Don't get my hopes up of returning the quality back to this Forum.

CAL expects the boo-birds to flame away re: membership to get rid of the haters...

If you truly had THE ANSWER, then CGC would have adopted it.

I don't mean to jump into the conversation - but it seems like, paid membership or not, you are always going to have people who rub other people the wrong way. I don't think I would want to be part of a messageboard that kicked out people who rocked the boat and only kept members who towed the line. Just because one person is a jack@ss doesn't mean that he doesn't ocassionally contribute something worthwhile.
