Anyone in So Cal still go to the Shrine monthly convention?

Hadnt gone in about a year and a half. In terms of dealers and book selection(especially silver age and golden age) it had gotten pretty slim. I finally went a month and a half ago, but due to some other booking at the shrine it was in Pasadena. It was even worse then I remmeber it. Is it still this bad when its at the Shrine?

Yes. Less and less Silver/Golden age comics to buy at reasonable prices. More "Other" stuff for sale. It is well-attended and the promoters have GOT to be raking in the dough... 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I used to regularly, but in recent years it has kinda been the same vendors with the same books over and over again. The occasional new vendor didn't seem worth go there. Plus it seems like the porn dealers and scanky models have overrun the place. I generally go when I know certain dealers will be there, like Harley. Although I had planned to go to the June, not sure if I will.

Just about hit the nail square on the head there Death. I feel just like you do about the Monthly Con. Sometimes I try to remember to go, but of something else( just about anything) comes along, the Con is out... how sad.

I can remember awhile back when Bruce would have the whole bottom floor filled with vendors. He would have to use the top floor as overfill and guest signers. In fact when McFarlane was about 10 issues into Spawn he appeared there and had to use the upper level for signings.

Now it seems he can barely fill the bottom section. Also, many of the veteran dealers are just plain a-holes too, some of them known dealers too.

That was my one and only trip to the Shrine for a comic show! I remember that show. The place was PACKED. Lots of good books there too. Not the case anymore? Bummer. frown.gif

sign-offtopic.gif I worked for Bruce who paid me with comics instead of money when I worked at his store when I was in the 7th grade or so. Some of the comics I chose were Spider-Man 298 and 300. cloud9.gif.

SHUT UP!

Dude, I bought most of comics from Bruce growing up. You were probably there when I was buying. Back when he had that hole in the wall place across from McDonalds that Creature Features eventually bought.

That is crazy.
