Kevin Smith Wants You!

I'll keep watching, because I like seeing comics on television, even if the people trying to buy and sell them don't appear to know what they are doing.

WC

Yeah, this is the main reason why I am watching too. Any chance to see comics on TV, and I'm interested. I hated the first episode, but they have slowly improved...with last night's episode being my favorite thus far (it helps that I'm a X-Men fanboy).

I won't watch anymore. I've got better things to do with my time than watch a bunch of fanboys flounder like fish out of water.

lol

Question though about that OA: The seller mentioned that the word bubbles were discolored due to them being waxed onto the OA pages; will this damage/discolor the OA pages themselves over time? Because I would hesitate dropping 10k on OA (good deal or not) if this was a possibility.

Original Art is very different than comics in that it's a different mindset that as a comic collector was difficult for me to wrap my head around.

Resto is not frowned upon, especially for pieces that are aging. It doesn't really affect the value because it is the only one of it's kind.

If you have a Golden Age or a Silver Age page that is really special, are you going to let it rot away or conserve it to preserve it?

If you want a certain page (and Buscema Surfers are very appealing to me personally) you can't wait until another comes along. They are all one of a kind.

Even more interesting is that from what I know, you can literally drop a page, damage it, write on it, press it (or restore it) and the value doesn't drop (or drop greatly compared to comics)...as long as the page stays presentable and complete without any glaring defects or additions it's considered desirable. All of these within reason of course. You can't photocopy the page and expect it to fetch full price. :insane:

The wax will leave a residue and stain the paper underneath the word bubbles. I used to use a waxer long ago (mid-90s) when I worked at a printing service bureau, and I saw slight discolorations like that on artwork. But it hadn't aged as long as those Surfer pages.

I would agree, art buyers are acceptant of that because that was how it was laid out back in the day. If I were to own that artwork, I would remove the wax from the bubbles and re-apply the word bubbles with a hinge, so it didn't get any worse over time - and that would adhere to typical art restoration standards.

To watch Comic Book Men Tonight!

I don't want Kevin Smith.

But he can have me at the rate of $250K per episode.

The only thing Kevin Smith seems to want me to do is hate him, his show, his employees and obviously he wants me to feel embarrassed to even collect anything that has to do with what that show is about. My lady has officially banned that show from our home due to how angry it makes me haha.

Kevin Smith is the new George Lucas?

Does Smith appear on this show? If so, can you see the massive baldspot on the back of his head or does he wear a cover?

Kevin is *always* filmed from the front. I guess now we know why. Walter's zits were out of control this week again. He need some Proactive.

I officially sympathize with Kevin Smith. I had to shave my damn head to blend my bald spot in. Good for him growing hair in the front and demanding they never shoot from behind.

Comment from somebody that placed an order today:

You folks can thank the show "Comic Book Men" for restoring my interest in the comics I read back when I was 10. Thanks.

Just enjoy comics on the TV, because it will be gone very soon.

Even though the show gets better every week, it will take a freaking MIRACLE to get this show a second season.

Bro, I'm bald as hell. I just wanted to take a shot at Smith & that was the only bullet within reach.

For the record, I haven't even seen the show. Maybe I'd love it?

At least you gave in and enjoyed the natural experience. Some - not so much.

Probably not love, but it's entertaining. I mean, I don't know why the rampant hate - it's not that bad. I mean, there's improvements to be made, and all of us fanboys are just as guilty as the next in bltching about it - but Hell, I watch it and I'm recording it.

If bon bon-popping housewives can have The Bachelor, why can't we have a comic book show? I'm all for it, and I'll support 'em even if they resort to showing nothing but outdated McFarlane toys, Bad Girl comics from the 90's and POGS.

If you support it Balls, then I support it.

Saw the most recent episode on my DVR and it was actually a little bit better than the last few. I liked the emphasis on the materials people bring in, not street hockey of whatever they were playing a week or so back (couldn't watch that show). Maybe there's hope, or like my son said, others will be inspired to make a show that's better.

Time will tell :/

to put it in perspective - the 1st season if Growing Pains was kind of crappy but then it hit its stride in season 2 & 3. I think this is the case with most tv shows. Maybe they will learn some lessons from these initial eps and turn the corner? :wishluck:

I think that applies to a lot of shows from back then - but now, executives want record-breaking ratings within the first two weeks or they put the show on the chopping block. There's no patience for show development anymore. That's why television has gotten more and more dumb. It's targeting the majority population in order to get quick results.

But, that's a topic for another thread.

If I were Kevin Smith, I'd hire Sunshine Girl to grease herself into a Phoenix costume and pay a visit to Alan Moore Wannabe, Buck-tooth, Mouth-breather and Mustachio Man to drive up ratings.
