Opinion about changing collection

I have always liked the Neil Adams Batman and Detective covers, but recently I have started to like the Golden age Joker covers. I was thinking about selling my Adams Bats and Tecs and going after Golden age Joker covers. I am at a lost and wonder what other people thought?

Sell them all... go for a high grade copy of Batman 11...

But keep one or two that you find really mean the most to you... (The Neal Adams covers that is)

Beautiful book.

Do it. Since switching focus from SA to GA I haven't looked back. I kept some of my best SA books, but they are slowly going now as they mean less to me all the time. The GA is in many ways the essence of comics.

Keep the Adams books that are the hardest to replace and sell the others to buy GA books. Depending on the grade you are looking for with the GA Bats and Tecs, they will be easier to find than some of the HG Adams books you have.

However, if you decide to do an Adams purge I would be interested in a couple of the books in your sig line........ :baiting:

And asking what people think about that...[/font]

I don't think other people can really give you advice on that one.... If you do it you can't have any regrets. It's obviously something YOU want to do.

Collect what makes you happy

Golden Age Joker covers are amazing, I'm a Marvel zombie all the way but you can't fault these and they make for a great mini-collection.

Maybe this will push you over the edge

That seems like good advice. Keep a few of the toughest books, especially if they are favorites.

In a sense the answer to your question maybe comes down to how much of a stickler you are about condition, because you could replace your 9.4 and 9.6 Adams books with nice-for-the-grade 7.0s (making up a number...), and the $ left over would fund many a pretty GA book. To some of us this would be unthinkable, but for others of us (me included) it would be a fairly painless decision. But I'm not a HG slab guy to begin with, so your mileage may vary.

I did it and haven't looked back. I had a huge, high grade Neal Adams collection, sold most of them but kept the horror issues and a couple other favorites, started buying Gold. With very few exceptions, his Batman and Detective runs are readily available and you could easily buy back those issues later if you wish.

Do it!! High Grade Adams covers are outstanding but at the same time they're available every day somewhere (Clink, Heritage, Metropolis/CC, Bob Storms, ebay, etc). GA Joker's are alway's in demand. Look at those nice Adams covers then look at these:

Sometimes that's just not in the budget. My budget does not allow for buying every book I want, and sometimes I have to sell books to supplement what I pay for new ones. I'm going to guess the OP is in a similar situation. So I try to keep this philosophy:

I ask myself: "Which book is going to be harder to find five or ten years from now?" For the most part, when faced with a tough choice - I usually go for the harder-to-find book first. I just faced a decision last week, using this philosophy. I went with the older books, leaving the moderns for another day.
