Opinion about changing collection

Why do you have to get rid of one,to get another?Keep em all! (thumbs u

Sometimes that's just not in the budget. My budget does not allow for buying every book I want, and sometimes I have to sell books to supplement what I pay for new ones. I'm going to guess the OP is in a similar situation. So I try to keep this philosophy:

I ask myself: "Which book is going to be harder to find five or ten years from now?" For the most part, when faced with a tough choice - I usually go for the harder-to-find book first. I just faced a decision last week, using this philosophy. I went with the older books, leaving the moderns for another day.

Personally if I cant afford a book at a particular time,I'll wait and save up for it.I think I'm too emotionally attached to my books.I traded a F.F.#52 that I owned since 1975 to a boardie for some books, and I had to buy the book back.No other F.F. 52 would do,I had to have mine.I know silly isn't it! :insane:

Haha. No way - that's actually pretty cool. If I could track down the key books I had in the 90's and buy them back, man - I'd do that in a minute. Personal provenance is awesome.

I'm pretty attached to a lot of my books, too - I guess I have two kinds of books in my collection. The ones I won't sell and the ones that I might sell. I would have to agree - if I had books that I couldn't part with, and I needed another key book - I'd either save up for it or do time payments. That's another option here.

I think I have some serious problems. :insane:

......Good advice. Buy one of the nicer Joker covers and see how it grabs you. I know I've bought books that I thought I really wanted only to have them collect dust. I've also sold books I thought I was "finished" with, only to wish I still had them before they left the Post Office. Your change can be incremental. I know Detective 402 is tough in 9.4.....and the 400....I know I'd miss those two quite a bit. GOD BLESS....

I'm with Oakman29, Porky, and a few other posters here. If you already have the Adams collection can't you just keep those books and add the GA Jokers as you can afford them? Admittedly, I'm not familiar with the current values of the Jokers.

DB. Racer here. I recently did a similar collection switch to what you are contemplating. I was collecting all the stuff I liked, but always wanted to own hi-grade keys. I couldn't afford to keep my collection and buy the hi-grades. The boardies alerted me to the fact that I could sell my non-keys and buy the hi-grades (Duh!) So, reluctantly at first, that's what I did. Now I'm stuck on hi-grade keys. I went from 300 slabs to 30...and I love it. I was sad to see all of my babies go, but I can't believe I now own some hi-grade keys that i NEVER thought I'd own.

My point is: collecting habits and interests change...go for it!

I have always liked the Neil Adams Batman and Detective covers, but recently I have started to like the Golden age Joker covers. I was thinking about selling my Adams Bats and Tecs and going after Golden age Joker covers. I am at a lost and wonder what other people thought?

Collect both.
