Copy #5 is on the way.  Picked up another nice copy off eBay on the cheap.  I thought these were rare or scarce?

My white whale. Have yet to find one of these out in the wild.

I've been tracking and identifying DC Whitman multi-packs for quite a long time.  Over the years, I've spotted 137 different DC Whitmans in a multi-pack.  I've collected the multipacks that contain 122 of these 137 issues, but there are still a handful I need for my collection.

Regardless of owning them, I'm still interested in documenting their existence.  There are 27 issues (barring any errors in my analysis) that I've never found in multi-packs that are noted in the following list.  I think it's time to ask for assistance in finding as many of these as possible.  Unsurprisingly, the big 8 issues appear in this list, but some of the rest aren't as scarce so you'd think a multi-pack would turn up.   Can anyone share a pic of any of the following issues in a 2-pack or 3-pack?

Action    508
Batman    323, 324
DC Comics Presents    9, 10, 14, 22
Flash    273, 274, 276, 278, 286
Green Lantern    116, 117, 118, 119
Justice League of America    167, 168, 179
New Adventures of Superboy    6
Sgt Rock    329
Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes    264
Super Friends    16, 21, 32
Superman    348
Warlord    22

Very interesting how all the big ones are still a bit of unknown...

Action 508

Batman 324

DC Presents 10 and 22

Flash 286

JLA 179

New Adv of Superboy 6

Sgt Rock 329

Legion 264

Superman 348

Warlord 22

...and even a more recent key like GL 116...

It's like a who's who of rare and desirable Whitmans...and mostly released in Canada...

Yep, the surprises are the rest of the listed issues which are relatively much easier to find.  For instance, JLA 167, 168, 179 or Flash 273, 274, 276 or GL 116, 117, 118, 119.  But I've never seen a 3-pack that contains only JLA issues, or only Flash issues, or only GL issues. It sure would pare down that list quickly if such 3-packs exist!  Ditto for Super Friends and DC Comics Presents.  All of these titles where I'm still searching for multiple examples have only been seen to be in mixed packs.

In comparison, the titles where I have seen 3-packs containing only a single title are

  1. Action (3 diff packs)
  2. Batman (3 or possibly 4 diff packs - I've seen images of a pack with Batman issues front and back, but don't know the middle comic)
  3. Brave and the Bold (4 diff packs)
  4. Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes (3 diff packs)
  5. Superman (3 diff packs)
  6. Wonder Woman (4 diff packs)

Here are two 3-packs that I've seen but don't own and I didn't find out the middle comic.  Can anyone confirm the hidden middle comic in these packs?

Batman #312, #316 and ???.  For this one, you can see a sliver of the bottom of the middle comic peeking out from behind Batman #312.  It looks like Batman #315 to me but I'd like a confirmation from someone who has seen or owns this pack.

Superboy and the LSH #247, Superman #331, and ???

All that did was remind me of the last song skit on an Adam sandler standup audio disc! (How's that for variant qualifiers!). :roflmao:

That ends in, "All the world is Shluck!" Or something lol I want to say Sssh don't tell album but the guy has a funny perspective sometimes, and has a Netflix special that's 'new" coming out this week.

Some relevance because the album is shleck. :roflmao:

Having deja vu like I had that conversation before. The most Whitman's I run into are ones that are normally Dell, and it would float my boat if I knew anything about them.

Some can look old to my untrained eye and not be...

Anyways.

I have removed the temptation to overpay for this unopened 3-pak.

You're welcome.

There are three pairs of DC Whitman packs I've identified where the same group of three comics are in two different types of bags.  Your pack is an one version of one of these situations.  Here's the variation that also holds Superman #338, 339, and 340. Instead of the Superman logo and image, this one just has the Super Heroes top flap.  This is the most dramatic difference in packaging.  The other two pairs of packs are packaged similarly with the same style of logos, but there are two different color variations where one is red and the other is green.

Unfortunately only have some flimsy evidence of what might have been in the Sgt. Rock 329 3pak. Did a search in my database and realized the only 2 DC Whitmans I have from the my childhood collection in 1979 are Superboy and the LofSH 253 and Sgt. Rock 329. I also have a JLA 167 from my childhood collection that would fit perfect to complete the 3-pak I bought back in the day. It's not marked as a Whitman in my database but that could have been an oversight. Will try to dig it out and see soon.

Update: Dug it out and JLA167 is a regular edition so there goes that theory. Makes me wonder though if they ever put regular DC's in the 3 packs.

I can't say I recall any regular DCs in the 3-packs.  But there have been some combos with regular Marvels in the packs with DC Whitmans.  :insane:  And there's a pack with DC Whitmans that also includes a Flash Gordon Whitman.  So it can't be ruled out!

Fantastic DC Whitman 2-pack that's new to me, it contains Action #504 and Wonder Woman #264.  :cloud9:   Both of these comics are also found in 3-packs. The Action 504 is unseen as the middle comic in a pack with New Advs of Superboy 2 and Superman 344 so this is the only pack where it's one of the outer/visible comics.  Wonder Woman 264 is one of the visible comics in a pack with Flash 283 and B&B 159.

Guessing those were distributed in Canada, given the French warning about putting one's head inside a plastic bag, non?

Oh, the fun we used to have as kids putting our head inside the bags... It's even funnier in French!

You can also see the address for Whitman's mysterious Canadian offices in Cambridge, Ontario on the bag. I found a guy on LinkedIn who used to work there, but he resolutely refuses to answer my messages. I'd love to know what inside stories someone could share...
