Prof. Carter Nichols where are you?

I think only true BATMAN fans will recognize this name. But I was wondering, is he considered a main character?

And for those who don't know who he is, Prof. Carter Nichols is the guy that helps Batman in those old time travel stories.

Anyone know when was the last time he was in a story.
