Researching Techniques!

13 posts in this topic

Hi!

Another n00b query from El N00bio the New.

What are some of the good tools out there for researching your comic purchases? Do you rely on the CGC Census? Have you found any other reliable sources to let you know how many of the particular issue you're looking at buying are in circulation, their grade and possible price points (to know if you're getting gypped)?

No poll... Just figured it could be an AFAQ. Or possibly even a OTAQ.

AQ?

Q!

GPA is a great resource for researching the price of a CGC'd book, It also links to the Census, which is handy. I also like to use Heritage as it links to the Census and has over-street prices and is easy to search completed listings. Over-street price guide can also offer an alternative for raw book pricing (although it is not perfect). Ebay is also a good resource with their completed listings you can easily get a grasp on value.

I would also look at Comic Link for sales

Regards, books themselves and what you are buying. My comic shop has a great database for searching titles and so does Comics price guide. They are very good at finding scans of books you're not sure off.

Also it is worth using Comic Chronicles to find print runs

There are others but I can't remember them at the moment

That is pretty much bang on. Exactly what I have enjoyed using (but only recently discovered GPA and it's worth the subscription cost)

I would add though I also have a list of local (in city) comic shops who sell CGC comics and will often check against their selling price.

awesome! Thanks very much!!

I'd been trying to get my hands on overstreet digitally - but they don't sell it in the App store in Australia. :(

So this will be great. Ta!

Where is the CGC Census tab on Mycomicshop?

If mycomicshop has the information then it's the last tab (right) when you view individual issues.

Tabs from left to right are

Available Stock

Add to wants list

Add to comics I own

Contents

CGC Census-only if information is available and updated (I believe)

I couldn't find what the acronym actually stands for (General Price Analysis, General Price Average, Grade/Price Average?), but it's a service that shows you what comics have been selling for. Unlike a price guide, it gives real-world sales info, which could be seen as a more accurate determination of value, supply/demand, etc.

The service is $10.95 a month of $119 a year.
