How many collectors would pay $27K for a JLA #1 9.2?

94 posts in this topic

Show of hands. Answer this honestly. You are being offered a CGC 9.2 JLA#1 for $27,000.00

If you chose to buy it, you would have to write out a check for $27,000. Would you write that check?

I can't afford that, but even if I could, there's no way. You can get some fairly killer books for 27k. As much as a sharp jla #1 would be nice, it's not 27k nice when compared to what you can buy at that price - an edgar church timely or whatever.

If I were a DC fan, then it would depend on the book. If it's that soft 9.2 on Comiclink, then no way. If it were a accurate 9.2, then yes.

But in reality, I am NOT a DC fan so I wouldn't buy the book regardless. wink.gif

The end result is no sale. Nothing is sold and nothing is bought. It is just gawked at. That is not a market.

This is coming from someone who has amazing SA DC's in his collection. A killer set of JLA with a perfect #1.

Steve

Sure it's a market; it's just letting you know where the "ceiling" is on that particular book in that particular condition at this specific point in time.

Uh, by the way...could you post a scan of your #1, please? There's something I want to check out. 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

"Books then come on the market with insane prices. The actual buyers stare at these prices with disbelief. And then walk away.

Oh, you mean like your own books?

I have a few nice JLAs in the first 20 issues, but I'd never spend 27k on a #1 in 9.2. If I had that kind of disposable income in my comics budget, my mind would immediately shift to Golden Age.

In fact, Steve, I'd probably start by calling you about your Batman #11 9.0. One of my grail books, but currently out of my budget.

I wouldn't , there is to many other books i would buy with that money !!! "golden age" . Plus I feel Brave & the Bold # 28 is a more important book overall then JLA # 1,if I was going to purchase in high grade!! It don't matter to me though as I have both books in my collection in lower grades, but there still nice & I love 'em!!!!! grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

you know Steve, I have to agree Showcase # 4 is the book in the silver age!!!! AF# 15 is more popular & I personally like it bettter but Showcase # 4 kicked started the Silver Age!! Plus it's truly rarer in high grade!!!! I remember years ago you yourself said, getting a autographed version of the Bible would probably be easier then a high grade Showcase # 4!!!! Showcase # 4 must have come off the press no higher then VG or Fine!!!!

What's the sense in that anyway?....unless CGC was there when the Apostles signed it it would be a qualified grade... frown.gif

Amen!
Doesn't Metro have the Highest graded copy? 893scratchchin-thumb.gif

I have to say that Showcase 4 has a fantastic red cover, it is a much more important book, but how many collectors would take the AF 15 over the Showcase 4?

I guess that would come down to personal preferance!!! Most people i would think would be AF # 15 ,but since I have one I would go after the Showcase # 4 myself!!!!

But don't forget the historical importance Of Showcase the whole run!!! Plus the character The Flash is Awesome!!!! & let's not forget Green Lantern, & the Atom!!!, ETC.IMO!! Showcase is one of the greatest runs to collect next to Spideys & FF's!!! in the Silver Age!!!! thumbsup2.gif

In see you can pick up a mid grade copy of Shacase #4 for $3-$4K. Doesn't this seem cheap? I hope to get a mid grade AF#15 and a Showcase #4 for the collection one day.
