Agreed. Several spine tics on the front and some wear or dirt on back cover.

I am thinking 8.5. Dirt is reasonably substantial but it is structurally pretty nice.

Paper mechanics are real artists in my opinion. You could do serious damage when someone like Joey Post who does amazing work could press it for $10.

I am no expert but pessing is the application of heat, humidity and pressure to a book to make it lay flat.

 

They can also dry clean it to remove dirt.
